For my CORE A area classes I completed ENGL 1101 (Composition I), ENGL 1102 (Composition II), MATH 1111 (college algebra), and MATH 1112 (college trigonometry). In ENGL 1101 and ENGL 1102 I learned how to analyze a section of a text and use critical thinking to answer analysis questions, and how to formulate a research paper and what best sites to use to find information. (image is a piece from ENGL 1102) The major assignments I had in these classes, were essays in different genres, such as a narrative, explanatory, persuasive, and a research paper based on topic in my field. I can connect what I learned to help myself in future classes, when I have to analyze texts or when I have to write research papers in science labs. In MATH 1111 and MATH 1112, my major assignments in these courses were mymathlab quizzes and homework that would prepare me for the exams. I learned how to do algebra from graphs, and in college trigonometry I learned to use shapes to help formulate algebra questions to solve graphs and get data points. I can connect the information I learned in these classes to help in my future science labs when I have to mathematically analyze data or graphs.
The courses I completed in the CORE B area were HIST 1112 (survey of World History II) and GEOG 1130 (World Regional Geography). The major assignments that I had to complete for world history were reading responses from several books set in different time periods and based in different parts of the world. After the world history course, I learned the history of various regions of the world, and this now helps me have a different perspective on how other societies are set up. In world geography the major assignments that I had in this course were exams on various regions of the world. I learned how different societies in the world are and a little history behind how these societies function. I can connect what I learned in this course to when I want to travel in the future, I now have a better idea how different societies are, and I learned a new respect for all parts of the world.

For my CORE area C course, I am currently taking MUSC 1100 (music appreciation). In this course, my major assignments are listening quizzes and exams over the content of different areas of music. I have learned the basic elements of music, analyzed different composers on their sounds, and some history about music. After taking this course I will now be able to identify different composers and know different aspects of music when I listen to it. I used to play the piano when I was younger, and after being in this course, I have now expanded my previous knowledge at a deeper level.
The CORE area D courses I took were CHEM 1211 and 1212 (Principles of chemistry I & II) and MATH 1112 (College Trigonometry). The major assignments that I had in both chemistry courses were Pearson assignments over the topics learned in lecture and the weekly labs and reports. In both courses I learned basic concepts in chemistry, how to apply them in a lab situation, and how to do the math side of chemistry. The concepts that I learned in these courses will definitely help me in my future courses in my college career. I would like to become a dietician and chemistry is a big concept in this field, and these courses have taught me the basics to help prepare me for my future upper level chemistry courses. In my college trigonometry course, the major assignments that I had to complete were mymathlab weekly quizzes/ homework that were over the content we learned during class in the week. I learned how to apply the algebra that I had previously learned and was able to apply it to different types of graphs and shapes. After taking this course I now know how to navigate a graphing calculator which helps me in science courses when I have to input data and analyze graphs.
The CORE area E courses that I have completed are: POLS 1101 (American government), HIST 2112 (us history since 1877), PSYC 1101 (intro to psychology), and SOCI 1101 (introduction to sociology). In both American government and us history the major assignments that I had to complete were discussion posts and weekly quizzes over the content from the week. In the courses I learned the history of the country and details on general areas of our government and how they work. In intro to psychology, the major assignments that I had to do were only exams. I learned basic concepts and theories that psychologists’ study. After taking this course I have a better understanding on how our brains work and different mental illnesses and what treatments are typically used. In introduction to sociology, the major assignments are small essay questions about a specific chapter and concept pictures to help learn sociological concepts. I am currently taking this course and I have learned how sociologists study society and what different fields that they do. This course has given me a different perspective on how our society works and it has changed the way that I look at our surroundings.
