In my short twenty years, I've lived in seven different states, built countless relationships, and learned a lot about myself and what I want my place to be in the world. So far (knock on wood) it's felt like I'm playing the game of Life and every time I roll I land on a good spot. As I continue to follow the path laid before me, I work to make sure my future is on the same positively linear track I've been on so far. Every time my family moved it engendered growth in me, and I was always exactly where I was supposed to be for each period of my life. To skip to the exciting part, when I was 15 I was a Junior in high school and I was introduced to High Point University by my Godmother (for narrative purposes one could consider her a fairy Godmother, not even joking). After a few months and an October Open House, I got accepted and committed early decision to HPU, a school that felt like it fell right into my lap.
I had always been academically focused (like since the first grade). I finished my Senior year of high school as Student Body President, National Honors Society President, and Valedictorian. I had only secretly wanted to be Valedictorian and worked toward that ambition all four years, and that hard work paid off!
Despite COVID-19, in Fall 2020 I came to HPU and immediately got involved and started making friendships that would last all four years. The Student Justice Program was the first organization I was honored to become a member of, and the people I met and the skills I developed there set me up for four years of success.
Each year I became more involved and began to push myself toward a larger goal. I wasn't quite sure how this would manifest itself but I trusted that whatever great things I was meant to accomplish would find their way to me. Sophomore year I set clearer goals, joined more organizations, invested further in friendships and continued to give 110% in my classes. I made HPU feel more like home.
My parents moved to Florida at the end of my Freshman year, but that didn't change my ability to pursue new opportunities and still see close friends. My summers became a world tour of internship opportunities, traveling, mental health breaks, and state-hopping to wherever my friends and family were.
Junior year was one of growth and focus. I got a rewarding internship with the NC-06 Congressional office, served as Chief Justice, tried new things (pageant girl moment?!), and continued to put every effort into my classes. Second semester, I became Student Body President and continued to fulfill the academic standards I’d set for myself by ranking top 3% of my class. I had honestly come to college not expecting to maintain any of the same accomplishments I'd held in high school simply due to an increased level of rigor, but these wins taught me that my drive for success is not defined by my environment, it's defined by me.
The summer after my Junior year I visited my lifelong dream spot! Every time anyone would ask me where I wanted to visit outside of the U.S., my first response would be Spain. The Maymester in Spain was the coolest academic experience shared with the sweetest people and full of growth moments. It was my first time out of the country and such a memorable time.
Most recently, I started off the perfect senior year with my closest friends, doing things I’m passionate about and finishing my credits strong. I'm continuing to carry out my promises and policies from my SGA campaign, I'm serving my roles to the best of my ability, planning large events, making time for friends and peaceful moments, and continuing LSAT tests and law school applications, still on track to pursue my goal of becoming a lawyer. All I have to do is put in the effort and (knock on wood) keep trusting God's will and plan for my life.
