It was intended to be an agile long ranged fighter with low damage, quick attacks, good range and a tendency to annoy. As the plastic had roughly the same weight of wood, its stance transferred pierce damage into blunt damage ; however prior to the 0.1.1.6 it was the reverse. The older stats were
Strength 1 ☼
Agility 4 ☼☼☼☼
Speed 4 ☼☼☼☼
Weight 0
Stamina 0
Life 1 ☼
Pierce 3 ☼☼☼
Blunt 3 ☼☼☼
Reach 4 ☼☼☼☼
Difficulty 6 ☼☼☼☼☼☼
Metal stance had +1 weight and -1 speed. Plastic had +1 pierce and -1 blunt. It was updated to bring more differences between stances.
☼ This is not even the first item FlameofChange started to practice, as it started not long before he inaugurated H2H
► He however had experience with pencils and eraser pens, which has similar movements at that time
► Paradoxically he never wielded metal or plastic chopsticks (or maybe can't remember)
☼ Another square shaped chopstick could have been picked instead, but the ones at FlameofChange home were bent ; they were also a bit more frail due to being made of bamboo
☼ Was mistakenly called in the code Chinese Staff because in french Chopstick is called Baguette chinoise (chinese stick)
► During development the correct name was progressively instated
► Since chopsticks aren't limited to china, this makes an even better generic name
☼ With the Hex key class, they currently never use their fingers to strike
☼ The Down opener is heavily inspired from the Spear Neutral Down attack from Brawlhalla, having similar movement and even the same sound
► Placeholder sound which is still in the data on this day (0.1.1.6)
► It's also the only animation where the height of the canvas was increased, but thankfully the game framework didn't needed to be updated for this as it was downwards
☼ A total of 3 different chopsticks were used
► The first was quickly lost, but is present for the early basic animations
► The second one was longer, and thus shortened to match the old one. It was then lost too, finally found back and still used to this day
► The third had not the right shape and was even longer, so during the hander phases it was artificially edited
☼ Due to the different chopsticks used, the length is not constant on all frames, even taking perspective into consideration
► In later development stages the full length of the second chopstick is chosen as a base value
☼ The white end was added to make it a bit easier to recognize from which side the chopstick moved
► This very white end changed a lot from one animation to another, because the habits evolved before being standardized during reworks
► It varied from one to 5 centimeters on the worse cases, but most of them are fixed
► In older version some frames had this white bit omitted, which was fixed in later iterations
☼ According to FlameofChange, this is currently the most precious item of H2H he owns, because finding another one with a comparable size and thickness is difficult. It can also be more easily broken during travels.
► Other common items like ballpen and gluestick are too common to be a concern, even if he grew a bit attached to the one used for taker phases.
☼ It is planned to have special attacks/combos to fire like a japanese Yumi bow, but is kept for later
► Both weapons have asymmetrical shapes and comes from the same continent, making a plausible comparison
☼ New players tends to spam heavy attacks, and since chopstick has currently the worse heavy only combo they perform very poorly in public fairs
☼ Spamming Neutral attacks is very effective against hard level AI even when cornered, since they constantly approach
☼ Side-Side-Side can permanently stun an adversary while spammed, but needs to reduce the enemy guard to actually start the cycle
► This is an oversight and a main balance concern for the Chopstick, nerfing it will make it too risky
☼ The Metal stance has an even worse effect on movement speed and jump power because the weight goes over the strength, reducing it even more
☼ The shape of the chopstick was difficult to draw in early stages. Using straight lines wasn't giving the homemade effect, and doing it by hand was clumsy.
☼ The first animation image of Hit is the first contribution by the game, as well as being the only one made by Stalfos
