Experience Reflection
I had many volunteering opportunities during high school due to my membership with the Leadership Academy program at my school. However, I had not had a real job nor volunteer experience related to the field I wanted to work in. Working at the University Co-Op during my first year of college, I learned how to speak with customers and help meet the needs of those around me. I also raised funds for their course material scholarships which I found to be fulfilling. One of my major courses had a volunteer requirement, where I got to work with Foundation Communities. I got to learn more about health insurance and the disparities that the average American is facing. One of my favorite experiences was being an Orientation Advisor. My training gave me a better understanding of the needs incoming college students have, how to use emotional intelligence to connect with others, and facilitate connection.
Now I primarily work within the College of Liberal Arts as a desk assistant and undergraduate teaching assistant. I am able to use all the skills I gained from my previous experiences to help college students with their academic needs.
