Academic Challenges Reflection
I entered college as an undeclared student within the college of liberal arts. I was heartbroken about not getting into the major of my choice and was stressed about not having a goal to work towards my first semester. However, I reframed the situation to make this a time of exploration and take any classes that interested me. I decided to take the introductory course for Health and Society my second semester and fell in love with the topics. I made it my official major the following academic year.
During my second semester of my second year, I started to experience more anxious and depressive symptoms. It waas much more difficult to complete school work, I wasn't motivated to go to work. I quit my job to try and make more time for myself and my mental health, which helped for a while. The following semester, I put a lot more pressure on myself to make up for that spring semester. This did not work out and my symptoms came back. I had a great support system that encouraged me to reach out to mental health services and I was able to change my mindset around school and get back to my usual self.
