Teacher of Color Mentor Program Framework
Mission Statement:
The mission of the BIPOC Teacher Induction & Mentoring Program is to provide opportunities for professional growth in a collegial, non-judgmental environment through supportive intra and interpersonal relationships that fosters educator satisfaction by providing support, encouragement and guidance to teachers who are within their first 3 years of teaching.
Develop understanding and empathetic relationships that fosters mental, emotional, physical and spiritual support
Offer transitional support from the college classroom to teacher classroom
Provide ongoing workplace guidance and navigation
Advance learning competencies necessary for personal and professional promotional growth
Understand how community and stakeholders relations impact education (e.g. grass roots organizations, students and families, community organizations, school boards, legislative influence and lobbying)
Student Candidates at both the graduate and undergraduate level will have the opportunity to attend a large group monthly Affinity Sessions. These sessions will be held in both virtual and face to face formats.
BIPOC Teachers with 3 years or less of experience
BIPOC new professional teachers will have an experienced BIPOC educator as a mentor.
The Experienced Educator and the New Professional will meet with twice a month
Once via a 1:1 Web conference (approximately 30 minutes)
Mentor and Mentees will complete a Post-Session Reflection Log
