Symbolic Eyes

How does art represent personal expression, exploration, and/or insight? (get it, insight)

YOUR TASK:

Draw your eyes and include SYMBOLS that represent you.
Symbols of you can be ...things you like, you are proud of, what nationalities are you, passions, family history, interests, teams or clubs you belong too, etc.
How can you incorporate your symbols throughout your composition?

What is required for the grade?

  1. Five+ Symbols that represent YOU and are incorporated THROUGHOUT the composition.

  2. Shape, form, depth, highlights are expressed by using VALUE.

  3. Rendering. Understanding the spacing relationship between parts of the anatomy. (eye aren't too far apart or too close, -you should be able to fit an eye in-between them. )

Materials needed to make this:

Pencil, Paper, and Imagination.
You are welcome to add any other materials or art supplies

Vocabulary used in this lesson:

  • Symbol. Usually a solid, recognizable thing—an animal, a plant, an object, etc. —that stands for something that would be hard to show in a picture or a sculpture. A force of nature, for example, or an idea. A symbol can also stand for someone's whole story.

  • Value is defined as the relative lightness or darkness of a color. It is an important tool for the designer/artist, in the way that it defines form and creates spatial illusions. Contrast of value separates objects in space, while gradation of value suggests mass and contour of a contiguous surface.

  • Form as in the illusion of form, not in the 3-D sense.

  • Rendering in visual art and technical drawing means the process of formulating, adding color, shading, and texturing of an image. It can also be used to describe the quality of execution of that process.
