Hailstorm Exotics is currently only open for emergency intakes. If your animal is not an emergency surrender we cannot accept them at this time.
We got our start as Reptiles, Rodents, and Rejects Rescue. We had to take a break, but now that we're back we've decided to make some changes, including rebranding ourselves with a new name.
At Hailstorm Exotics we take in many species of reptiles, as well as some species of rodents, invertebrates, and fish on a need basis.* We are also working towards becoming hobbyist reptile breeders, with a focus on Western Hognose snakes. We offer resources and education for anyone looking to learn more about a species that we work with.
The first step for any new intake is for the current owner to fill out an intake form. This ensures we have all the information we need about an animal to properly asses if we have the ability to take them in. After reviewing the intake form someone will contact the current owner to further discuss, this is where we will let you know if we currently have space for your animal(s), if we don't we can put you on a waitlist if you'd like, or direct you to other resources to help find a placement for your animal(s). If we are able to take an animal in we will schedule a time to meet, and once the animal is in our care they will go though a quarantine period (length of quarantine is determined by species, and may be increased for an individual animal.) After an animal has completed their quarantine they will become available for adoption, unless the animal is special needs and requires additional time with us. Some special needs animals will end up adopted out to a qualified home, others will go into our hospice program for long-term care.
Once an animal has gone through our intake process and been labeled adoptable they will be posted as available. These animals will first be offered to anyone on a waitlist for that species, and then made available to anyone that may be interested. To adopt an available animal, or get on a species waitlist, the first step is to fill out our adoption application. After filling out the application you will be contacted to discuss any currently available animals that you may be interested in. Each animal will be matched to a home based on what the individual is looking for and the observed temperament of the animal, despite this we cannot make any temperament guarantees as many animals will behave differently once in a new environment. Once an animal has been matched with a home a meeting will be scheduled for pickup.
