Capstone Internship

Networks Connect LLC

Networks Connect LLC is a health care staffing agency based out of Indianapolis, IN established in 2019. We provide staffing needs for multiple different facilities around the country and are continuing to grow everyday. At this internship, I've had the opportunity to work closely with our healthcare professionals to ensure that the facilities that we work with have the staff that they need to provide the best care to their patients.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Reaching out to our health care professionals to see if they would be available to fill shifts that the facilities are needing coverage on

  • Answering commonly asked questions about schedules, pay, and areas that we staff in

  • Recruiting an onboarding new health care professionals

  • Negotiating pay rates based on location, contracted rate, and urgency

  • Reaching out to facilities country wide to inquire about their needs for staffing

  • Reaching out to my coworkers when my tasked duties are completed

Learning Objectives

  • Demonstrate and gain transferable skills in a professional work environment

      • We are based in Indianapolis with no other sites around the country, so I have been able to improve my communication skills through phone and email to ensure that messgaes and expectations are clear. I have also had the opportunity to learn a lot about scheduling and the importance of knowing who you are working with.

  • Work effectively individually or in a team-setting to accomplish assigned tasks

      • At the beginning of my internship, I was mainly doing a lot of business development and recruiting work which is mostly individual work. We were expected to make a certain amount of calls per day to providers or facilities to hit our metreics and I tried to go above and beyond every time. Recently, I have been lucky enough to have been placed in a team that works with the Fort Wayne area. We handle 27 different accounts (facilities) in that area currently, so there is always something to be done. This has been my favorite experience so far because you really get to know your healthcare professionals in this role and get to work closely with your team.

  • Determine professional fit within health-related organization

      • I quickly moved on from my recruiting role at Networks Connect and began working closely with my lead scheduler within the Fort Wayne area. This role has been the most satifying role that I have been in at this organization thus far, but I have chosen to extent my internship into the fall and hope to also work with the compliance and accounts recieveable team to see how I fit in that role as well.

Personal Development

The skills that I have aquired through this experience have been communication skills, working in a different kind of fast paced environment, and multitasking. I was lucky enough to be one of the first interns to get a new facility contracted with us within the first couple of weeks of being there, and the amount of praise and gratitude that came with that from upper management was such a good start to this experience. There is always work to be done and a lot of it comes all at the same time, so being able to focus on more than one task at a time and complete all of them by the end of the day is extremely important. Through this intership though, I have learned that I need to continue to work on my communication skills. They have gotten better since my first week, but there is still room to grow.

This internship has been one of the highlights of my colligate career and I am so lucky to have experienced this kind of work environment because it is a very different environment that I have worked in in the past. Everyone is very much willing to help one another with the needs they may have or difficulties they may be experiencing in their department. There is just an amazing sense of comradery in this organization taht I have not found anywhere else. It is still a very young company, so I am just happy to be apart of their growth.

Academic Connections

My previous coursework has had some impact at my internship, but not much. As I am mainly working behind the scences at my organization, I have not had the opportunity to apply a lot of what I have learned, aside from professionalism, into my current position. I hope to take the skills that I have gained here and combine them with my coursework to make a well rounded healthcare professional in the future.
