Shōyō Hinata (Japanese: 日向ひなた 翔陽しょうよう Hinata Shōyō) is the main protagonist of the Haikyū!! series by Haruichi Furudate. For the majority of the series, Hinata was a first-year student at Karasuno High and one of the volleyball team's middle blockers.

Tobio Kageyama (Japanese: 影山かげやま 飛雄とびお Kageyama Tobio) is the deuteragonist of the Haikyū!! series. For the majority of the series, he is a first-year student at Karasuno High School and plays as the starting setter for the boys' volleyball club.

Kei Tsukishima (Japanese: 月島つきしま 蛍けい Tsukishima Kei) is a first year at Karasuno High. He plays as one of the starting middle blockers on the boys volleyball team.

Kōshi Sugawara (Japanese: 菅原すがわら 孝支こうし Sugawara Kōshi) was a third-year student at Karasuno High. He was the vice-captain, a substitute setter and pinch server for the boys' volleyball team.

Yū Nishinoya (Japanese: 西谷にしのや 夕ゆう Nishinoya Yū) was a second-year student at Karasuno High. He was the libero for the boys' volleyball team and was referred to as "Karasuno's Guardian Deity" by his teammates, for his remarkable skills.

Daichi Sawamura (Japanese: 澤村さわむら 大地だいち Sawamura Daichi) was a third-year student at Karasuno High. He was the captain and a starting wing spiker for the boys' volleyball team. During the period when the original coach, Ikkei Ukai, was hospitalized, he was one of the captains who had to act as the team's coach.

Tadashi Yamaguchi (Japanese: 山口やまぐち 忠ただし Yamaguchi Tadashi) is a first year student at Karasuno High. He plays on the boys volleyball team as a middle blocker and pinch server. During his third year, he became the team captain.

Asahi Azumane (Japanese: 東峰あずまね 旭あさひ Azumane Asahi) was a third-year student at Karasuno High. He was a wing spiker and its ace for the boys' volleyball club.

Ryūnosuke Tanaka (Japanese: 田中たなか 龍之介りゅうのすけ Tanaka Ryūnosuke) for the majority of the series is a second year student at Karasuno High. He is part of the boys volleyball club and plays as a starting wing spiker. Tanaka was known as the teams up-and-coming ace.

Chikara Ennoshita (Japanese: 縁下えんのした 力ちから Ennoshita Chikara) was a second-year student at Karasuno High. He played as a substitute wing spiker for the boys' volleyball team. In his third year, he became the team captain.

Keishin Ukai (Japanese: 烏養うかい 繋心けいしん Ukai Keishin) is the current coach of Karasuno High boys' volleyball club. He is also an alumnus and former player on the team, having played as a setter.

Ittetsu Takeda (Japanese: 武田たけだ 一鉄いってつ Takeda Ittetsu) is the faculty advisor and head coach of the Karasuno High boys' volleyball club, though the practical coaching is performed by Keishin Ukai.

Kiyoko Shimizu (Japanese: 清水しみず 潔子きよこ Shimizu Kiyoko) is a third year student at Karasuno High. She is one of the managers for the Karasuno boys' volleyball team for majority of the series.

Tōru Oikawa (Japanese: 及川おいかわ 徹とおる Oikawa Tōru), also known as Tohru Oikawa in the English translation. For the majority of the series, he was a third year student at Aoba Johsai High, serving as the captain and setter for the school's boys' volleyball team. He is the main antagonist of the Interhigh and Spring High Preliminary Arcs.
