The Haig Neighbours vision is to foster a welcoming, healthy, and vibrant community for our neighbours, local businesses, and visitors. The following values will support us in achieving our vision.
Build our social fabric. Utilize the theory of Asset-Based Community Development to identify and celebrate pre-existing strengths, talents, and assets within our neighbourhood.
Welcome opportunities for growth. Support our neighbourhood’s growth and development by keeping an open mind to new housing and commercial spaces that positively contribute to our neighbourhood’s vibrancy.
Green our streets. Promote a greener community by advocating for canopy restoration and planting edible & pollinator gardens, with a focus on plant species native to the Carolinian zone.
Safe, healthy streets for neighbours of all ages. Make the best use of our urban environment by promoting the calming of car traffic and its replacement with walking, cycling, and transit options.
Connect with one another. Provide regular opportunities for neighbours to meet up, have fun, and discuss our neighbourhood.
Support a respectful neighbourhood. Foster an equitable community where everyone belongs, with no space for hate.
Governance
Governance
Haig Neighbours relies on the consensus of board members who take a vote when making decisions on behalf of the association. The board is always open to new applicants. The association holds monthly meetings where everyone is welcome to attend and speak. Board members are required to regularly attend monthly meetings and be able to provide informed input on governance matters. If you would like to apply for a position on the Haig board, please complete our volunteer form.
