Pollinator gardens support pollinators in a variety of ways. We created bee houses for solitary bees who don’t build their own homes but instead reuse other materials. Solitary bees are important pollinators of many of our native plants and to be sure they visit the garden we provided a home as well as food. Solitary bees create their homes in fallen trees and sticks, which are often destroyed in efforts to clean up garden areas.

These homes are made out of Japanese Knotweed due to it’s perfect size and shape. Japanese Knotweed is an invasive plant. We sought to reuse this plant that otherwise has a negative impact on native community by repurposing it for bee homes. Less invasive plants lets natives flourish and grow.
