What is a hackathon?

A hackathon is a competitive coding event where teams use technology to solve real-world problems in a limited time frame for a chance to win prizes. The mission of our event is to encourage students ranging from Grades 7-12 to combine their passions with technology to change the world.

Do I need any coding experience!

Nope! Our hackathon aims to provide opportunities, such as introductory coding workshops and mentorship sessions, for beginners!

Who is eligible to participate?

We welcome participants of all backgrounds to join us who are in grades 6-12! If you have any specific questions about the eligibility, feel free to shoot us an email!

What kind of challenges do participants hack?

We will provide broad categories for participants to work under and address on the first day of the Hackathon.

What if I don't have a team to work with?

No worries! Most of the categories are individual. As per the echoAR category, we will be having a team formation event in which you can choose to work in groups of 2-4 based on your similar interests and experiences!

Do I have to submit a project?

Nope! While we encourage you to submit a project for a chance to win cool prizes, you are more than welcome to enjoy the workshops and network with others!

How much time do I need to commit?

Up to you! We encourage you to attend as many as workshops as you like, but you are more than welcome to log off, take a break from your projects, and simply chill!

I have another question!

No problem! Feel free to email us at hackathon@piscatawaylibrary.org, and we will gladly take any questions you have!
