There is a very big problem in humanity that threatens the existence of the planet. It is associated with exponential population growth. According to the UNDP, the population is expected to increase by almost 10 billion by 2050. To feed it, food production will have to increase by 59% to 98%.

Traditional fisheries cannot respond to an increase in demand. Its methods put wild stocks and their aquatic ecosystems at risk. For the reasons set out above, the aquaculture important as it allows more production with fewer resources and less environmental impact.

The expansion of aquaculture is constrained by an increasing need for feed. Aquaculture species require considerable amounts of fish protein to achieve optimal growth rates. To supply their feed needs, agricultural land is used, which is very costly in environmental terms.
