BIO-SKETCHDr Κ. Trohidou is head of the Computational Modeling of Nanostructured Materials Group in the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, NCSR “Demokritos” (Athens, Greece). Her research interests are at the areas of the Theoretical Studies and Multi scale Modeling of nanostructured materials. She is co-author of over 130 scientific publications, 9 chapters in books and editor of a book. She is participating in several EU, national, and international projects.

José Rivas

BIO-SKETCHJosé Rivas is a professor of Physics at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, with a focus on nanostructured magnetic materials. He is dedicated to the application of complex magnetic nanomaterials in biomedical and environmental contexts. Since 2014 he is a life member of IEEE, USA. In 2017 he joined the Royal Galician Academy of Sciences and received the 2018 Salvador Velayos Award from the Magnetism Club of Spain.

Alberto López Ortega

"Mn3O4-Fe3O4 hard-soft exchange coupled core-shell nanoparticles: synthesis, interphase and magnetic properties"

BIO-SKETCHAs an associate professor at the Universidad Pública de Navarra (Spain), I obtained a Chemical Sciences degree (2007) and a Ph.D. in Materials Science (2012) from the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. I completed two 3-year postdoctoral stays at the Università degli Studi di Firenze and CIC nanoGUNE, supported by a Juan de la Cierva scholarship. My research, reflected in 48 articles with 2700+ citations and an h-index of 27, centers on nanostructured magnetic materials. This includes rare earth-free permanent magnets, magnetic coupling in multicomponent systems, optical and magneto-plasmonic coupling in hybrid nanoparticles, and innovative bulk materials based on 2D and 3D nanoparticle assembly.

Robert Morel

"Large magnetic particles for biomedical applications"

BIO-SKETCHRobert Morel earned a PhD in Physics from the U. de Montréal. After post-doctoral stays at the Université Paris-Sud and with the CNRS Aimé-Cotton Lab, he took a position with the French CEA in Grenoble where he studied the growth and properties of nanometric magnetic clusters. He is currently a Research director at the SPINTEC Lab, also from CEA Grenoble. His main activity is devoted to the design and implementation of magnetic nanoparticles for biomedical applications.

Andreas Michels

"Neutron scattering fingerprint of vortexlike flux closure in nanostructures"

BIO-SKETCHAndreas Michels has received his doctoral degree in 2001 from the Universität des Saarlandes, Germany. After postdoctoral stays at the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, Germany, the Paul Scherrer Institute, Switzerland, and Monash University, Australia, he obtained his habilitation degree in 2008 from the Universität des Saarlandes. Within the framework of an ATTRACT research fellowship of the National Research Fund of Luxembourg, he then built up a neutron scattering and magnetic materials group in the Department of Physics and Materials Science at the University of Luxembourg, where he currently serves as a Full Professor. His research interests are centered around the technique of magnetic small-angle neutron scattering (SANS). On the one hand side SANS is used for experimentally studying the spin structures of magnetic materials, e.g., Nd-Fe-B or Mn-Bi-based permanent magnets, Heusler alloys, or magnetic nanoparticles, and on the other hand side theoretical and simulation work is carried out in order to understand and develop the fundamentals of magnetic SANS.

Russell Cowburn

"Spintronic Materials for New Biomedical and TechBio Applications"

BIO-SKETCHRussell Cowburn has research interests in nanotechnology and its application to magnetism, electronics, optics and healthcare. He is the founder of four start-up companies and has had over 60 patents granted. He is the winner of several scientific prizes, including the 2016 Royal Society Paterson Medal. He was one of the 2015 IEEE Magnetics Society Distinguished Lecturers. He has held two ERC grants. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society.

Elin L. Winkler

BIO-SKETCHElin Winkler is Researcher of National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET), Researcher of National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA), Head of the Magnetic Resonance Lab at the Bariloche Atomic Center, and Professor at the Balseiro Institute, Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, in Argentina. She is co-author of more than 90 papers and three book chapters in the field of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials.

Paola Tiberto

"Magnetization reversal in 2D and 3D nanostructures"

BIO-SKETCHPaola Tiberto got her Ph.D in experimental physics at the Politecnico di Torino in 1993. She has been a researcher at the National Institute for Metrological Research (INRIM) since 1994, focusing her research efforts on studying the magnetization process in magnetic systems across all length scales. Her recent research has been mainly devoted to nanostructures, specifically magnetic layer patterning using nanolithographic techniques for applications in ICT, actuators, sensors, and biomedicine.

Annamaria Gerardino

"Nanostructuring magnetic materials: nanofabrication processes design and technology for a challenging task"

BIO-SKETCHA. Gerardino is a senior researcher at the CNR IFN: Her expertise is mainly in micro- and nanofabrication, particularly e-beam lithography and thin-film processes. Her research interests include photonic devices, smart biochips for cellular co-culture, nanostructuring of magnetic materials, and development of photonic sensors for multimodal spectroscopy for food quality and contamination detection.

Hamid Kachkachi

"Magnetization nutation in nanomagnets"

BIO-SKETCHHamid Kachkachi received his PhD in Mathematical Physics in 1994 from U. Bordeaux I, after a few short-term appointments, he became Assistant Professor in 1997 at U. Versailles (Lab. LMOV), then Associate Professor in 2003. In 2008, he was appointed as Full Professor at U. Perpignan, where he built the research group Nanoscaled Spin Systems. His research today focuses on Electrodynamics of hybrid nanostructures, Nanomagnetism, Systems with coupled charge and spin degrees of freedom.

Josep Nogues

BIO-SKETCHProf. Nogués is group leader of Magnetic Nanostructures Group at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. His research combines nanostructure fabrication with structural, morphological, optical and magnetic characterization to investigate basic aspects of the materials and to develop advanced and externally controlled nanotherapies and novel environmental remediation approaches.

Alessandro Ponti

"High-Entropy Spinel Oxides: Magnetism and Applications"

BIO-SKETCHAlessandro Ponti earned a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Milano in 1993. After post-doctoral stays at the ETH Zurich and University of Milano, he took a position with the Italian National Research Council where he now is Research Director at the Istituto di Scienze e Tecnologie Chimiche "Giulio Natta" in Milano. He has research interests in computational chemistry (electronic structure and reactivity) and in nanoparticles, in particular transition metal chalcogenide magnetic nanoparticles for catalysis and medicine.Lately, he devoted some attention to the field of high-entropy nanomaterials, in particular high-entropy, transition-metal oxides with the spinel structure. These fascinating nanomaterials display interesting magnetism and can be successfully applied to societally important issues such as energy storage and hydrogen production.

Peter S. Normile

"Exchange interaction between ferrimagnetic nanoparticles"

BIO-SKETCHPeter Normile is staff physicist at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), Spain. He did postdoc work on x-ray diffraction at the Institute for Transuranium Elements (Karlsruhe, Germany) and was beamline scientist at the European Synchrotron (ESRF, France). His current research area is magnetism in nanoparticle systems, where a particular interest is the use of x-ray scattering to facilitate structure-magnetic property relationships.

Marco Beleggia

BIO-SKETCHMarco Beleggia got his PhD in Physics in 2001 from U. Bologna (IT). After his post-doc years at Brookhaven Nat. Lab. (US), and at U. Leeds (UK), in 2008 he became Associate Professor at the Tech. U. of Denmark (DK). In 2021 he moved to U. Modena (IT) where, since 12/2023, he is Full Professor. His research focuses on coherent electron imaging applied to the quantification of nanoscale spin and charge distributions. He authored 100+ peer reviewed papers, and his h-index is 30.

Claudio Sangregorio

BIO-SKETCHCS graduated in Chemistry and obtained the Ph. D in Material Science and works at CNR where he is the Director of ICCOM. The scientific interests are in the field of nanomagnetism and include synthesis and characterization of nanosystems for theranostic applications, RE free permanent magnets, high frequency low losses materials, magnetic catalysis and molecular magnets. He has co-authored 254 scientific articles (Hi=71).
