Update Session 19: Striving For Efficiency
12/3/26 15:45-18:50
Gyrodos Changelog:
26Mec34 Palkia:
The frame was sent out today. We will receive it shortly after.
> Action to take: [EE] members shall solder a NEW Weipu adapter to five of the thrusters, as they are still incompatible.
26Adm22 Dragon Claw:
Work continues. ME Team investigated the viability of passive claws for our tasks.
> Action to take: [ME] department to make a mount to match the original holes, and to draft a CNC-made adapter for the worm gear.
26Mag41 Float Feebas:
Received the vertical actuator from the supplier.
> Action to take: [ME] members need to draft the hole distribution so that the new connectors will fit. Details in a more extensive documentation in the big group distributed later.
26Ele25 Tether:
EE made a count for the wire lengths. We found out that only 8m of the 80m tether was delivered.
> Action to take: An order will be placed for the correct length (100m for two teams) which will be shared usage with Team Magikarp.
Special note for Gyrodos members:
Starting from the next lesson, members must not go to Team Magikarp’s workshop to work on their own, except for the sharing of materials. Permission must be given by Mentor Rex.
22-1-26 Lesson 18
New Parts, New Progress
Gyrodos Changelog:
26Mec32 Milotic:
The frame was delivered this morning. 8 thrusters were mounted on it by Keanu and Yiming of ME.
> Action to take: [EE] members shall solder a Weipu adapter to two of the thrusters, as they are still bare wire.
26Adm22 Dragon Claw:
Started work. The non-waterproof stepper was taken away and replaced with a waterproof one.
> Action to take: [ME] department to make a mount to match the original holes, and to draft a CNC-made adapter for the worm gear.
26Mec28 Watertight Chamber:
Received the correct Weipu adapter of male and female pair.
> Action to take: [ME] members need to draft the hole distribution so that the new connectors will fit. Details in a more extensive documentation in the big group distributed later.
26Cod71 Lucario system:
Coding team Tested the thruster mixing algorithm and Backend-GUI connection in the system. Fixed some issues affecting performance limiting in False Swipe mode.
> Action to take: [Dive team] will test systems using the onboard Arduino and with a RS422 connection. To be done when internal wiring is ready.
Lectures by Rex Sir:
The content was on Fusion’s new interface and making a gear component in it.
Next lesson will be about 3D printing.
23-2-26 Lesson 13
Now you're playing with power. Gyrodos power!
Achievements:
* Started work on prop-making
* Received the last batch of materials from our initial BOM
* Wired 6 thrusters with the appropriate Weipu SP13 connectors.
Steps to be taken:
* Finish coding 26Cod71 LUCARIO systems for both Shoreside and ROV programs.
22-1-26 Lesson 9
Stepping Up The Game!
Achievements:
* Revamped the Gyrodos Number documentation system. ALL Previous codes (e.g. 2250) will be changed to the new standard (2 *6Doc* 50). This should show the department in charge (Adm, Mec, Ele, Cod, Doc, Mag) for clarity.
* Announced the cooperation between Gyrodos Robotics and Team Magikarp. From Lesson 9 and so on, Team Magikarp will become a development branch of Gyrodos Robotics. Members of Team Magikarp will be focused on the float (26Mag42 - Magikarp), while members of Gyrodos Robotics will work with the ROV (26Mec32 - Milotic and 26Mec34 - Palkia). Development Details will be posted below.
* Successfully evaluated ROV Milotic (26Mec32)'s Camera and Claw layout. We will be using an AHD fishing camera that is of the same model as Fukkien Secondary School's Team Overdefined, and the claw will be a novel design made by our CTO, Gordon Peng. Waterproof stepper motors are to be purchased and used for testing the claw's functionality.
* Obtained a Camera sample from Team Magikarp mentors. Further evaluation of the camera's performance will be done by our CEO, Keanu Lam.
Steps to be taken:
* Regarding the Gyrodos number changes, Documentation teams should take care and use the NEW documentation standard (26[Dept]XX) and update all instances of the old standard (22XX). PIC Jason Lo.
* Regarding the Camera and Claw, Admin members will submit a BOM (procurement list) on 23 January. The mentors will then place an order for it, and we expect that the parts will be delivered on or before 3 Feb 2026. PIC Keanu Lam, Yiming Huang, Gordon Peng.
* Documentation team will make a list of the total lengths of PVC pipes used to build the props, tagged (26Doc80). PIC Jason Lo.
* The promotion team will make an Instagram post with a picture taken during the lesson to show our progress. PIC Nixon Li.
* There will be extra sessions held after school for building 26Mec32 ROV Milotic and 26Mag42 Float Magikarp. Please note the first batch of bonus dates and come to school (or after school) to support development: FEB 4 (after school, session 10b), FEB 20 (holiday, session 13), FEB 21 (holiday, session 14), FEB 23 (holiday, session 15), FEB 24 (holiday, session 16)
23-10-2025:
We're officially into the 2026 competition season! Our members have taken their first session of Gyrodos Robotics training. We'll post updates to our <GitHub repo>, our ROV pages <Gyrodos> and <Magikarp> in the meantime! Stay tuned!
6-10-2025:
Big update for our website! Our administration team has just finished marking up the first and second batches of Aptitude Test results, which can now be viewed in <Selection Test Results>. We have also set up a <Members' Showcase> for our own personal projects and minigames.
21-9-2025:
We have officially set up a junior team to cultivate talented engineers for Gyrodos Robotics!
Called Team Magikarp, its members will be competing in the MATE ROV's Explorer Division. Excellent members of Team Magikarp will be promoted to Gyrodos Robotics to compete in the more challenging Ranger Division.
30-8-2025:
Keanu from our design board has just finished the construction of the 1:1 Gyrodos G2.2's prototype frame, "Lapras", and is updating the design drafts of the aluminium sheets for CNC machining. We have also included a new specialised page to document all crafts used for MATE 2026.
10-8-2025:
Our design board has begun development on our foam-board mockup of our latest craft. After the dimensions have been finalised, graphs will be sent to our manufacturer for cutting out the aluminium pieces. We hope to finish assembly of our frame by September to make way for further operations.
24-7-2025:
We are proud to announce that we have received our first sponsorship from 中山市三禾电子科技有限公司, which is willing to support us with high-quality materials and industrial processing services. We extend our most sincere thanks to them for accompanying us on our journey. We hope to explore new depths together! If you would like to become a sponsor too, please don't hesitate to contact us at gyrodosrobotics@gmail.com.
23-7-2025:
In a step towards information openness and good documentation practice, Gyrodos will start using GitHub for our project, and all materials and progress can be checked by team members and merged into our GitHub documentation. This will not only centralise our resources but also let future Robotics Team members easily reference our project at a glance.
