Gyrodos Robotics is a ROV team that was founded in 2024 when a group of Lasallians got together and decided we wanted to take up the challenge to build an underwater robot. Most of us had some experience with programming or engineering from previous projects, but this is our first time working on ROVs specifically.
Our team is made up of students who are passionate about robotics and marine technology. We're divided into different subteams, such as software development, mechanical design, and electronics; and we can showcase our own strengths and collaborate on making our craft as best as we can.
This year we're competing in the 2026 MATE ROV Competition with our ROV designed for doing underwater tasks. We've been working on everything from the thruster configuration and buoyancy control to the surface interface and autonomous stabilisation systems. It's been a steep learning curve, especially figuring out underwater electronics and pressure housing, but we're excited to see how our design performs.
We are based at La Salle College in Kowloon, HK, and we meet regularly to work on design, testing, and documentation. Although we are relatively new to ROV competitions, we're committed to building practical models and learning as much as possible along the way.
