Police Brutality: A Glitch Website
by Tiffany Kuang, GWC Head of External Affairs
In just one week, Tiffany created a website based on the excessive and unwarranted use of force by law enforcement, or police brutality as a way for individuals to learn more about it's commonality, relevance to our world, and what we as individuals can do to combat it through statistics, resources/links, history, and individual action items.
We talked with Tiffany to learn a bit more about her project...
Q: Why Police Brutality?
A: "I decided to pick police brutality because I remember vividly scrolling through social media and seeing people of color, specifically African Americans, be brutally attacked by the police. It looked like a scene from a movie, but these were real people. There were other ways of helping, such as participating in protests. However, because it was during the peak of COVID-19, I wasn’t allowed to go out into populated public spaces in case I brought back COVID and spread it to my loved ones. I still wanted to make an impact on my community and show my support, which was why I decided to pick police brutality as my topic!"
Q: Advanced skills utilized in Glitch?
A: "Some other advanced topics I used included embedding Youtube videos, interactive tables, and a time-lapse of the US map pinpointing the location of known incidents throughout 2016."
