2. Tiffany's Website: While summering at Girls Who Code's Summer Immersion Program in 2021, Tiffany Kuang, GWC's Head of External Affairs, built a fully functioning website for the public to learn more about police brutality. Her project featured a plethora of advanced CSS and HTML techniques such as adding parallax scrolling to website layouts.
We started off this week's meeting with an ice breaker, "Guess Who". Each member wrote a few fun facts about herself on a piece of paper. The facts were read aloud and the rest of the members had to determine who that particular person was. This icebreaker encouraged team building and confidence for members to speak out!
3. Sprint #2: Groups of two and three from the previous sprint continued to work on their website (a call-to-action, non-profit organization or movement, or something they're passionate about). Members also got a lesson from Vindhya, our Curriculum Director, on how to utilize CSS in their websites. Click on the button below to read more on how we taught!
This week, we began with another fun icebreaker: "This or That?" Would you rather swim in a pool full of Nutella or a pool full of maple syrup? Believe it or not, more people opted to swim in Nutella over maple syrup... what would you choose?
Sprint #1: For our first sprint, we paired off into groups of two and three and set off to learn to code in HTML using Glitch, a collaborative programming environment that lives in your browser and deploys code as you type. Teams were asked to build a simple website for a call-to-action, non-profit organization, or movement they are passionate about. Teams will continue to build on their websites over the next few sprints to come as they continue learning more and more about HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.

For the Woman in Tech Spotlight this week, we covered Adena Friedman, President and CEO of Nasdaq, Inc. Forbes considers her an engine for capitalism and is considered by many in the financial industry to be one of the most powerful women. To read more about her, click on her image!
The Mind of College Students
A resource for students to learn more about mental health and how they can become more mindful in their lives.
Best Friend Animal Society
A website for an animal welfare organization with shelters, rescue groups and members to promote pet adoption, no-kill animal rescue, and spay-and-neuter practices.
For this week, we started off playing charades as an ice breaker.
Exploring Sprints: We formed two groups to experiment with Canva, a graphic design platform, used to create social media graphics, presentations, posters, documents and other visual content. Both groups did a fabulous job creating potential logo designs for GWC.
