GUMS Math Climate Day
November 30th 2023
November 30th 2023
On November 30th 2023 in MS 569 our 2nd Math Climate Day event took place at the University of Calgary.
We had a day full of presentations, workshops and discussions how we as mathematicians (and statisticians) can solve climate-change related problems, such as climate modeling and renewable energy. Everyone was welcome, regardless if undergraduate student, graduate student or faculty. Although the event is mainly focused on mathematics and statistics, participans from other areas (e.g. physics, geoscience, engineering) are also encouraged to come.
There were coffee, snacks, pizza for lunch 🍕 and nachos during trivia night.
The next Math Climate Day is planned to take place in May 2024.
This event will feature
Professor Sara Hastings-Simon (department of earth, energy and envrionment),
Student presenations,
A contribution by Matt Tierney, Analyst at Arcus Power about their new Carbon Stream product,
maybe a speaker about the indigenous perspective (we are still actively searching for a speaker about this aspect),
and a climate change trivia night in the evening.
The schedlue can be found here.
Unfortunately Quatratical AI cancelled and was not contributing (unlike previously written here).
