Project title and reference: Comparing process based LCA vs Environmentally Extended Input Output methodologies
Participants: Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM)
Duration: ongoing project Commenced: January 2021
Principal researcher: Guillermo San Miguel. Agroenergy Research Group, ETSII, UPM
SUMMARY: evaluate differences in the application of the methodology and results derived from the use of convencional process based LCA and Environmentally Extended Input Output.
OBJECTIVES:
Life cycle quantification of sustainability indicators such as carbon footprint, photochemical ozone formation, eutrophication, etc., may be achieved using different approaches. The most common is process based LCA. However, other econometric procedures like Environmentally Extended Input Output may also be used for that end. This project focuses on evaluating differences in the application of these two methodologies in terms of inventory requirements, uncertainty, results, etc. The project involves analysing systems for which precise material/energy and sectorial/economic inventories were available.
