For our first campaign, we asked the Greensboro City Council to pass a resolution committing to a transition to 100% renewable energy for City Operations by 2040. In 2018-19, we met with Mayor Nancy Vaughan and other individual Council members and the Community Sustainability Council (CSC). On December 3, 2019, the Council passed a resolution, making the commitment we had requested. They later approved a Strategic Energy Plan (SEP) for City operations. Since then, the City has hired a Chief Sustainability Officer, Dr. Shree Dorestant, and opened an Office of Sustainability and Resilience under her leadership. The OSR is very active in a number of areas, including energy management for the City and development of the City's tree canopy. They report annually on the progress of the City in meeting the goals of the SEP.
