About Us
We are a coalition of local environmentalists who are seeking commitments to a goal of 100% clean energy by 2050.
Our Original Name
Beginning with our initial rally in 2018, we were known as the "Greensboro Solar Power Now Coalition." In 2024, in recognition of our work across Guilford County for all types of clean energy, we changed our name to "Guilford Clean Power Now."
Since our founding, we have made significant progress toward getting local governmental bodies to commit to clean, renewable energy. Our first campaign resulted in Greensboro City Council agreeing formally to the goal of transitioning city operations to 100% renewable energy by 2040. Our "Green Schools Now" campaign saw the Guilford County School Superintendent adopt an Energy and Resource regulation that committed the school system to making a good faith effort to transition to 100% clean energy in all school facilities by 2050.
Our commitment to clean energy
Our coalition urges our local government agencies to transition away from using fossil fuels for all their operations. We envision clean energy actions that go well beyond solar, including investments in battery storage, geothermal energy, cost-effective energy conservation and alternatives that reduce carbon emissions. Our coalition has a vision that is about much more than solar panels on public buildings and parking lots.
