Steve began teaching in 2005. He is an educator and administrator who developed the post-secondary guidance program in an emerging independent school in Kelowna, BC. Since then, the school has grown to become one of the most prominent independent schools in the Okanagan.
In his work, Steve has created individualized plans, supported post-secondary and scholarship applications, read and edited personal statements, and celebrated the journeys of hundreds of students. He networks with university admissions staff and other guidance directors, produces and presents seminars to students and parents, and strives to keep up with the evolving post-secondary landscape. As a UBC MET student, Steve is expanding his skills and applying what he learns in the classroom, in website development for the guidance department, and using his skills in a video production project to offer greater accessibility to what he and his department offers.
Guidance4U was born out of Steve's recognition that most Canadian students do not receive the guidance that his students receive. Many times, parents have exclaimed how grateful they are for the support received through the guidance department as they felt overwhelmed and uncertain about the process of university admissions. They often compare their experience with that of friends with children in other schools and other systems and express regret about the lack of support elsewhere. With this in mind, Steve is seeking to establish Guidance4U as a venture that harnesses his experience and connections into a tool that benefits students across the nation.
