BRIEF HISTORY OF DARAGA COMMUNITY COLLEGE
In 2003, Daraga Community College (DComC) was established by virtue of Municipal Ordinance No. 17-03, passed on April 23, 2003. The creation of the college was made possible under Section 447(5), item (x), of the Local Government Code of 1991. This ordinance also created the Daraga Community College Advisory Council (Section 94-17-03). However, this provision was later amended during a session of the Sangguniang Bayan on July 21, 2003, by reorganizing the composition of the Advisory Council through Ordinance No. 37-2003 and renaming the governing and policymaking body of the college from the Advisory Council to the Board of Trustees.
Historically, DComC was located on the campus of Daraga National High School. It opened its doors to 356 freshies in June 2003, offering curricular programs such as the Bachelor of Elementary Education and Bachelor of Secondary Education. Three years later, the student population rose to 816 and continued to grow. Currently, DComC is located in Brgy. Salvacion, Daraga, Albay, with approximately 8,000 students enrolled in various programs and courses, including Teacher Education and the Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship.
Furthermore, Josefina B. Basilla, RGC, served as the institution’s Guidance Counselor from 2003 to 2022. From 2023 to the present, Christian A. Semeniano, RPm, LPT, RGC, has been designated as the new counselor.
