At Georgia Tech there are many options when it comes to choosing where to live and whether you will even get the residence hall or not. We'll provide you with some basic info on the housing options, the application process, what to expect, and some useful information that might help you get settled in.
Do the housing application as soon as possible if you're planning to live on-campus. Spots do fill up quickly. The quicker you fill it out the faster you get your time-ticket for self-assignment
Nice rooms are usually booked out first by the freshman. So always have backups and backup for your backups.
Keep track of any deadlines for deposits and pay the $80 application fee.
On the first day the application is open, there might be heavy traffic so be prepared.
Apply to a LLCs (Living Learning Communities) if you are planning to join one. You will be able to accept an LLC invitation (if you have received one) after you have completed the housing application. Here is a link for the LLCs. Usually the transfers go for the Transfer-Year Experience LLC, but can join the other upper-classman LLCs.
Know what side of campus you want to live on, East or West:
East: closer to the fraternity house, stadium, and Tech Square which has more restaurant options
West: Quieter, less traffic, closer to the CRC, farther away from CULC, rooms are, on average, slightly larger than rooms on East
Here is a link for more info on the difference between both.
Freshman and Transfer housing application open at different times with the freshman applications opening before transfers. Make sure to check the GT housing website linked in the title for information on when applications open.
After completing the application, you will be put into a lottery with other new transfer students:
If selected, you will receive a room selection time ticket
If not selected, you will be put into a waitlist according to the lottery number
If you apply after the given deadline, you will be put at the end of the waitlist
