I then wanted to reboot into recovery mode. So I unplug the phone and hold down the necessary buttons until the device shuts off and reboots. However it boots into "Android system recovery " and not into TWRP.

I did it. basically when it reboots after installing the mod. I let it fire up which put it back to stock. where I held down the off button as soon as it was done. shutting it down, then I put it in recovery mode and all is now well.

but basically. you cant let it reboot after it has successfully installed the CWM other wise it wont work.

Well you cannot flash this. Instead there is a leaked OTA update package that you can flash via recovery but remember that to install it your Tab must be on stock Android 4.0.4 ICS build UEBLH3 firmware. The first thing I was looking for, was if the tablet was capable of running a custom ROM, and a custom recovery. I used to do this using ODIN, a program to flash a recovery to the device. I used TWRP 2.8.5.0 and later downloaded Cyanogenmod 13 which is an unofficial build, but still runs perfectly fine.

These are the steps I used to restore an old Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GSM (P5100)1 purchased in 2012, which came with Android Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.3) and was upgraded to Jelly Bean (4.1.2)1. There were issues installing and updating apps from the Google Play Store. I attempted to fix the issue and ended up installing a custom recovery image and ROM with a more recent Android version (i.e. replacing the stock Android operating system).

Samsung devices come with a unique boot mode called Download Mode which is very similar to Fastboot Mode on some devices with unlocked bootloaders.
