Choosing a Theme allows the site owner to easily change the look of the site without needing to use or know HTML. At this time, there are three different themes you can choose from. Each theme allows you to choose a color scheme and font style.
Google Sites gives the owner of the site a couple of options to personalize the header of the site. While hovering your mouse over the header of your site, you will see Change Image and Header Type.
Change Image - insert an image in the background of the header
Notice once an image is selected, Sites will automatically adjust for readability.
Header Type - choose from Large Banner, Banner, or Title Only
Google Sites provides two options with navigation, top navigation or side navigation. To change the navigation settings, hover the mouse over the site name and click the gear to the left.
The background of the pages on your site can be changed by changing the background color of each section the page. When the mouse is hovering over a section on page, notice the icons that appear.
Trash Can - allows you to remove that section of the page
Painter's Palette - select a background from the three options or insert an image
10 Dots - allows you to rearrange the order of the sections on the page
