Hubon Himal-Us: The GSU’s First Experience of Manggahan Festival Cultural Presentation
Guimaras State University once again proved that it does not only provide relevant and excellent tertiary education but it can also produce world-class performance. This was proven by the university’s first-ever participation to the Manggahan Festival Cultural Presentation.
The university was invited by the Provincial Government of Guimaras to perform, together with the five (5) municipalities, in the 2023 Manggahan Festival Cultural Contest and GSU was funded by the provincial government and its Hubon Himal-us who proudly represented the Manggahan Festival as a non-competing hubon. While the different municipalities showcased their respective festivals through splendid performance of their hubons.
The Hubon Himal-us was headed by the University President, Dr. Lilian Diana B. Parreño, as the Hubon Manager, Prof. Khristian T. de la Rama, as the Assistant Hubon Manager, Instr. Mark Joseph S. Claudio, as the lead Choreographer, Franz Arin Y. Labordo, as the Hubon Leader, and the Physical Education Department and Office of the Cultural Affairs, as the lead facilitators.
Selected students from different colleges sustained their energy and remarkable performance from the night-and-day rehearsals, blockings, street dancing, and presentation proper. With unique artistry and consistent performance, Hubon Himal-us bagged the Best in Suzuki Street dance award.
This experience became successful and memorable through the collaborative efforts of all the committee members and the generosity of the provincial government and the sponsors. Indeed, it was another milestone for the entire GSU community as it excels as one.
During the CHEDRO-VI Recognition last May 18, 2022, Guimaras State College was given an award for its timely submission of reports and consistent adherence to the requirements and guidelines of various Scholarship Programs of the Commission and Ms. Merry Joy S. Endencio was also given an award for obtaining a Latin honor of MAGNA CUM LAUDE.
