Preface: Gandhian thought has not been critically examined to the extent it has either been admired or condemned. The new generation has suffered a lot on this account. It is rather difficult to keep away from eulogy while thinking about a towering personality such as Gandhiji. Moreover those who claim to be his uncritical followers would take everything from him to be correct and good. This may be pardonable but certainly not desirable. সারাংশ- আধুনিক ভারতের একটি অত্যন্ত গরিমাময় ইতিহাস ও ঐতিহ্য হলো তার স্বাধীনতা আন্দোলন এবং সেই আন্দোলনে ব্যাপৃত অগণিত স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামী যাদের মহিমায়, মূল্যবোধসম্পন্ন জীবন ও অবদান, সাধনা ও ত্যাগ স্বীকার কিংবদন্তির মত। কিন্তু গভীর পরিতাপের সঙ্গে লক্ষ্য করা যাচ্ছে যে আমাদের বর্তমান প্রজন্ম সেই সম্পর্কে খুব কম সচেতন ,যদিও তাদের মানসিক ও চরিত্র গঠনের ক্ষেত্রে স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামীগণ আদর্শ হতে পারেন এবং তাদের স্বদেশপ্রেম দেশকে ভিন্ন ভিন্ন বিষয় গর্বিত করার ক্ষেত্রে অনুপ্রেরকের কাজ করতে পারে। এছাড়াও অনেক বিপ্লবী জীবনও খুবই রোমাঞ্চকর এবং আজকের ছাত্র-ছাত্রীদের ক্ষেত্রে খুবই চিত্রাকর্ষক হতে পারে। এই বিষয়ে সচেতনতা সৃষ্টির জন্য সংগ্রহালয়ের পক্ষ থেকে স্বতন্ত্র বা স্বাধীনতা সেনানী স্মরণে এই শিরোনামে ছাত্রছাত্রীদের জন্য একটি কার্যক্রম বিগত কয়েক বছর ধরে গ্রহণ করা হয়েছে এবং বিভিন্ন শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠান আগ্রহ সহকারে এটি কার্যকরী করেছেন। বর্তমান পুস্তিকাটি এই কার্যক্রমকে উপলক্ষ করে সংগ্রহালয়ের পক্ষ থেকে প্রকাশ করা হয়েছে।

সারাংশ-  এই গ্রন্থটি ইংরেজি 'Satyagraha As Movement'-এর বাংলা সংকলন। তবে বাংলা সংকলনটি ইংরেজির অনুবাদ বা হুবহু প্রতিলিপি নয়। এই সংকলনটিতে সত্যাগ্রহের ভিন্ন মাত্রা যোগ করার জন্য অন্নদাশঙ্কর রায়, চারুচন্দ্র ভান্ডারী, নরেন দাস, সুশীল কুমার ধারা, ভবানীপ্রসাদ চট্টোপাধ্যায়, মিত্র কৌটিল্যর মৌলিক রচনা অন্তর্ভুক্ত করা হয়েছে। এছাড়া জয়প্রকাশ নারায়ণ, নির্মল কুমার বসু, জহর সেন, পশুপতি প্রসাদ মাহাতো, সুপ্রিয় মুন্সীর রচনা রয়েছে।

সারাংশ-  মহাত্মা গান্ধী সম্পর্কে নিয়মিত চর্চা হয়েছে বাংলায়, যথেষ্ট না হলেও সন্তোষজনক। তাঁর জীবনী ও জীবন দর্শন, বাস্তব কর্মক্ষেত্ন, রাজনৈতিক আন্দোলন ও সত্যাগ্রহ, সমাজসংস্কার ও গ্রামীণ গঠনমূলক কর্মসূচি, নঈ-তালিম শিক্ষার কর্মসূচি ,সাম্প্রদায়িক সম্প্রীতি, প্রভৃতি বিষয়ক আলোচনা, সমালোচনা, গবেষণাধর্মী বই বিভিন্ন সময় প্রকাশিত হয়েছে‌। গান্ধী অনুরাগী ও ভক্ত জন স্বভাবতই নিজস্ব দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি, আবেগ, উচ্ছ্বাস থেকেই লিখেছেন, প্রতিষ্ঠিত সাহিত্যিকদের মধ্যেও অনেকে লিখেছেন গ্রন্থ আকারে ও প্রবন্ধে। যোগ দিয়েছেন আলোচনাচক্রে, ভাষণে এবং আবৃত্তি সভায়ও। গান্ধী জন্ম শতবার্ষিকী উপলক্ষে বহু গ্রন্থ প্রকাশিত হয়েছিল, কিছু খুবই মূল্যবান এখনো চাহিদা রয়েছে। গান্ধীজিকে নিয়ে কবিতা সংকলন অভিনব নয়, কারণ ইতিমধ্যে দু-একটি বই প্রকাশিত হয়েছে। এই সংকলনটির অভিনবত্ব তার ব্যাপ্তি, বিন্যাস, প্রভৃতিকে নিয়ে হাল আমলের কবিদের রচনার অন্তর্ভুক্তি, যা গান্ধীজি সম্বন্ধে চিরকালীন আগ্রহের কথা স্মরণ করায় এবং সর্বোপরি কিছু বিরল ও বিদেশী অনুরাগী রচনাও এই সংকলনে রয়েছে। স্বয়ং গান্ধীজি রচিত একটি দুর্লভ কবিতাও সংগৃহীত হয়েছে এই সংকলনটিতে। এছাড়াও মোহাম্মদ ইকবাল, রবীন্দ্রনাথ, নজরুল, জীবনানন্দ থেকে সুকান্ত, প্রেমেন্দ্র, বুদ্ধদেব বসু সহ বাংলার প্রতিষ্ঠিত কবিদের রচনা স্থান পেয়েছে এই সংকলনে।

সারাংশ -   বাংলায় গান্ধীজি তেমন সমাদৃত নন, এমন একটি ধারণা বাঙালি সমাজে বদ্ধমূল আছে। গান্ধী পথ ও জীবনচক্রের সম্বন্ধে নানা বিতর্ক ও ভিন্ন মত আছে। তবু গান্ধী সম্বন্ধে বিস্তারিত আলোচনা পূর্ণ  এই গ্রন্থ প্রথম প্রকাশনার অল্প কালের মধ্যে নিঃশেষ হয়। দ্বিতীয় সংস্করণ শেষ হয় বেশ কয়েক বছর আগে। গান্ধীজিকে যারা কাছ থেকে দেখেছেন, তাঁর নেতৃত্বে ঐতিহাসিক সব আন্দোলনের সামিল হয়েছেন সেই সব ব্যক্তিত্বের রচনা এই সংকলনে রয়েছে। পরিমার্জিত এই সংস্করণে বিশিষ্ট সমাজতত্ত্ববিদ, গান্ধী পথের পথিক চিন্তাবিদদের লেখা অন্তর্ভুক্ত হয়েছে। সত্যের সন্ধানে, অহিংসা ও সত্যাগ্রহ, মত, পথ, বাংলা, বাঙালী ও গান্ধীজি, আধুনিক চিন্তা ধারায় গান্ধী এই কয়েকটি মূল ভাবধারায় বিশিষ্ট গান্ধীপন্থী, দার্শনিক, সমাজতত্ত্ববিদ, সমাজকর্মীদের লেখায় সমৃদ্ধ এই সংস্করণ। একবিংশ শতাব্দীর প্রাকলগ্নে মানব সমাজ যেসব নতুন সমস্যার সংকটের সম্মুখীন সেই পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে গান্ধীজির বিকল্প মডেল কিভাবে ফলিত রূপ পেতে পারে, তার দিশা রয়েছে এই গ্রন্থে। মহাত্মার প্রাসঙ্গিকতা ও প্রভাব পৃথিবীর বিভিন্ন প্রান্তের আন্দোলনে প্রতিফলিত হবে বুঝেই হয়তো আইনস্টাইন বলেছিলেন বর্তমান যুগের রাজনৈতিক পুরুষদের মধ্যে গাম্ভীর মতাদর্শের সর্বাপেক্ষা প্রবুদ্ধ ও জ্ঞানগরিষ্ঠ। এই সংকলনে তার পরিচয় মিলবে।
