The Stranger at the Well
I met a stranger at Jacob’s well today.
He offered Me a drink, why I could not say.
He did not have a bucket to draw this water with,
But he spoke of a water that was not in this pit.
He spoke of a water, he gives that will make you never thirst again.
I said, “Yes. Give it to me, not knowing this water would forgive my sins.
He asked me to go tell my husband about what he had done.
I said, “ A husband, Sir I have not one.”
He said, Yes, I know you have had five and the man
you now live with is not your husband.
How could this stranger know my whole life history
I could not say, to me it was a mystery.
He was a Jew and he spoke of a man who was to come,
The Messiah, The Savior, The Christ! God’s only Son!
He said, “I am He, The one speaking to you!”
But how could He be the Messiah? A Jew!
As his disciples returned, I slipped away,
leaving my jar of Water that day.
But I did leave with water, that is living in me,
I ran to tell my people, “This man, you must come see!
He told me, everything about my life, He knew the man I was with, I was not his wife!
Come, meet the Messiah, Jesus Christ, he is the one who gives Eternal Life!”
