Of Witchcraft, Idolatry and the Sexually Immoral
What does the Bible teach us about practicing witchcraft, worshipping idols and other gods? What does it say about the sexually immoral? I don't have to give you the definition of each of these types of people. They know who they are and so does our mighty God.
Here are a few verses from the Bible about what God has to say about them and what will happen to them. I'm not going to sugarcoat these words. God does not sugarcoat his words (to make those practicing them) to prevent them from feeling uncomfortable or picked upon. Sin is sin! Call a spade a spade. One of the things I see going on in the world today is everyone wants to be polite and accepting of everyone else’s behavior and choices. The Bible teaches us that certain behaviors, beliefs and actions will certainly have consequences. The Bible spells it out in black and white so there are no grey areas. Here are a few of those verses.
Deuteronomt 8:19 (NIV)
19 If you ever forget the Lord your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed. 20 Like the nations the Lord destroyed before you, so you will be destroyed for not obeying the Lord your God.
• "Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God." - Leviticus 19:31
• "A man or a woman who is a medium or a necromancer shall surely be put to death. They shall be stoned with stones; their blood shall be upon them." - Leviticus 20:27
• "There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. And because of these abominations the Lord your God is driving them out before you." - Deuteronomy 18:9-12
• "For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king." - 1 Samuel 15:23
• "Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God." - Galatians 5:19-21
• "And I will cut off sorceries from your hand, and you shall have no more tellers of fortunes." - Micah 5:12
• "So Saul died for his breach of faith. He broke faith with the Lord in that he did not keep the command of the Lord, and also consulted a medium, seeking guidance. He did not seek guidance from the Lord. Therefore the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse." - 1 Chronicles 10:13-14
• "Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood." - Revelation 22:15
• "And when they say to you, 'Inquire of the mediums and the necromancers who chirp and mutter,' should not a people inquire of their God? Should they inquire of the dead on behalf of the living?" - Isaiah 8:19
• "And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted the value of them and found it came to fifty thousand pieces of silver." - Acts 19:19
8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” Revelations 21:8
Clearly, God has something to say about those who practice witchcraft and idolatry and other sins. He tells us where they will end up and it is certainly not in heaven. These people are an abomination to the Lord our God.
These passages suggest that those who practice such behaviors will face severe consequences, including not inheriting the kingdom of God and being consigned to "the fiery lake of burning sulfur," which is described as "the second death."
In this season, We should be especially mindful of how and what we as christians portray how christians should act, teach and witness that God does not condone these behaviors and in fact, he see it as an abomination before him and will judge those harshly that believe and practice these behaviors.
