Interview on 101TV Hola Andalucía programme with Juan Miguel. Soledad Mena talks to Juan Miguel about his research, winning the Agustín de Betancourt Y Molina award and the current situation of  research in Spain - undervalued and underfunded!

The award ceremony in full can be viewed on the RAI's YouTube channel

In his acceptance speech, Juan Miguel, after thanking the academy, and congratulating his fellow awardees, opened by saying how R&D&i needs to be taken far more seriously in his home country. As he pointed out, many of Spain's talented researchers are forced to work abroad, as the lack of funding and long-term prospects make research a "vocation" rather than an attractive promising career option. Juan Miguel also highlighted the precarious nature of research positions in Spanish universities and stressed the importance of fully funding public institutions to the level enjoyed in the other countries.

The award ceremony is to be held on the 26th of January at 18:00 at the Royal Academy's headquarters in Madrid and streamed live on the RAI's YouTube channel click here to watch

Oasys group´s postdoc researcher Concepción Domínguez has been chosen as one of the awardees of YW4OR 2023 following Asunción Jiménez, who was one of the cohort of 2022. Congratulations Conchi!!!!

Data-driven strategies for modeling and control - Application to building thermal modeling.

In many cases, dynamical systems are not described by a physical model that is simple yet accurate for control, optimization, analysis or simulation purposes.  It is therefore necessary to explore available data to obtain suitable models. Different data-driven strategies will be presented briefly, at the crossroad of identification, learning and control. The main part of the talk will be dedicated to the modeling of a residential building's thermal behaviour based on real measurements. In the end, the outlooks considered in this work, and more generally the perspectives regarding the development of data-driven strategies for modeling and control will be presented, with a specific focus on energy systems, in order to encourage discussion and scientific interactions.

This research seminar is sponsored by the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (grant agreement No 755705).

It is organized by EURO – the European Association of Operational Research Societies

Concepción Domínguez is a Ph.D. student at the Computer Science Department of the Université Libre de Bruxelles, and the S. and Operations Research Department of the University of Murcia. Her thesis focuses mainly on the development of mixed-integer formulations and exact algorithms for pricing problems. Her research interests lie in combinatorial optimization and bilevel optimization problems with real-world applications.

The Rank Pricing Problem: a mixed-integer linear optimization approach

In the Rank Pricing Problem (RPP), a firm intends to maximize its profit through the pricing of a set of products to sell. Customers are interested in purchasing at most one product from among a subset of products. To do so, they are endowed with a ranked list of preferences and a budget. Their choice rule consists in purchasing the highest-ranked product in their list and whose price is below their budget. In this talk, we focus on the resolution of the RPP and two generalizations that consist in adding ties in the list of preferences and capacities. We present MILP formulations, valid inequalities, and exact resolution algorithms. The performance of the models and the resolution algorithms developed is tested by means of extensive computational experiments.
