The next set of activities will look at the importance of considering what safe, healthy, legal, and ethical use looks like from the perspectives of different cultures and how this drives university policies.
Diigo is a social bookmarking site which allows one to gather, organize, and share important links from areas of interest when working online. To make searching easier, key words or phrases (tags) are added to the bookmark in order to group similar ideas and themes. Written annotations can be included to summarize content.
Precursor to Activity 3: Go to https://www.diigo.com/ to set up a free Diigo account and add a Diigo extension to your web browser toolbar (see tutorial below). Join the Digital Learning: Policies and Procedures group under the "My Groups"tab at the top of your Diigo page.
Activity 3: Diigo Tag & Annotate & Activity 4: Flipgrid Share & Discover
Activity Intent: To experience an OCoP (Online community of Practice) through both storing and sharing information.
Step 1: Read the 4 articles, add each one to your Diigo "My Library" account, and uncheck "Private" so others can find through the applied tags .
Step 2: Once the articles are in your Diigo library, apply the appropriate social tags to each of the 4 articles . You must use at least one from the list of community tags (your learning network), at least two from the content tags (describing key content), and at least two more of your own design (community and/or content).
Step 3: Write an annotated bibliography (100-200 words max) within your Diigo library for each of the 4 articles giving information on authors, interesting content, and how useful the information is (see Google Doc example).
Step 4: Fill out the Google Doc with your tags and your annotated bibliography and make sure to share with the instructor at klm683@nau.edu for credit on this activity.
Step 5: Go to the "My Groups" tab at the top of your Diigo page and open Digital Learning: Policies and Procedures. Use the Bookmark button on this page to add copies of the articles to this group and share your findings with the group.
Activity Intent: To learn the complex reasoning behind the polices that govern the online practices insuring safe, healthy, legal, and ethical use in online learning through short interactive video discussions.
Step 1: Go to flipgrid .com or you can download a free Flipgrid app to your cell phone.
You need both the Flip Code: 18shle and your nau.edu Google email account to access.
Step 2: Your task is to answer the prompted question in each of the 4 Flipgrid topics using the articles and information from Activity 3. Be concise. Be thoughtful. Your video must be between 15-90 seconds.
Step 3: Respond to at least 2 fellow classmates' video in each of the 4 topics. Again, these are between 15-90 seconds.
