Present, in your own words, an overview of your first choice organization - who is the community they serve and what services do they provide? (300- 500 words. DO NOT copy paste directly from their site).
The Wishbone Canine Rescue organization serves the Bloomington/Normal and surrounding communities. The organization takes in dogs and gives them food, shelter, and care. They also take in dogs from kill shelters and disaster stricken areas. They have about 30-40 kennels. Most of the dogs are fostered rather than adopted but some dogs still get adopted. The adoption rate is about 1-2 per week. They take in a lot of dogs. They also have community pet vaccination clinics. They have adoption shows where they bring the dogs to public places for people interested in adopting to view the dogs that they currently have. Wishbone has also opened a pet food pantry which provides supplies and food to dogs in need within the community. They hire Illinois State University students. Wishbone provides the public with educational material on animal welfare issues. They also spend their time promoting lifesaving community initiatives.
Address a problem or social issue your first choice organization deals with. Where do they need help? Here you will probably need to do some research to help explain the issue (make sure you cite your sources). This should be about 500-700 words.
One of the main issues Wishbone addresses is taking dogs from kill shelters. This stood out to us and made us want to get more involved with their organization. The organization also has a lack of resources. They need things like blankets, toys, beds, and volunteers in general to help with. They need volunteers for events because some volunteers fall short with coming to every event. They need more help than volunteering with the dogs. Wishbone requires more assistance with their own fundraising efforts and adoption events. We are willing to help them in any way they need, whether it be at a site to help promote Wishbones cause or provide on the spot support at their location. Being able to raise them money so they can go out and purchase their supplies needed for their fundraising is crucial. The workers need funds as well as the animals in order to promote Wishbones goals. They need volunteers who are able to communicate with the potential adopters as well as having many characteristics such as leadership, public speaking, customer service, website development, dog training and handling etc.
What would your team like to do to help combat this problem / issue? Here is where you connect your plan to fulfilling a need of the organization.
In order to combat this problem, we are going to talk to a coordinator to generate some ideas on exactly what they need. First off we will make a gofundme to try and make as much money as possible. That money will go to WHATEVER they need, whether it be for the dogs or their own fundraising needs. We will discuss if we can hold a fundraising event on the quad with the dogs to make it more real life and in perspective. Our group will also provide them with toys, blankets and some beds, that being their need right now. We are going to volunteer and donate our tine at the organization and participate in their events. We will try and set up fundraising organizations with local businesses to make more profit for Wishbone.
What are your three SMART goals? (First goal is $100/person x # of people in your group. The other two are up to you).
1. $100/person x7
2. Turn in the project by the early submission date
3. Everyone has $50 by Thanksgiving break
What is your plan for achieving these goals?
1. Talk to friends and family about donating for our school project and the Wishbone Organization.
2. Always stay on task, be at group meetings, keep everyone updated on what is going on, and be conscious of reminding group members of deadlines. Checks and Balances.
3. Promote our cause. Whoever does not raise $50 by thanksgiving break owes everyone a treat at the next meeting.
What is your *rough* timeline for achieving these goals?
1. By the submission date.
2. The night before the early submission date.
3. Thanksgiving break.
What potential problems do you anticipate?
Some problems may include: miscommunication, not meeting any money goals, not getting cleared to fundraise on the quad, NOT GETTING OUR FIRST ORGANIZATION, time management (being busy), extracurricular commitments.
What is your fallback plan? What is your “point of no return” date for implementing the fallback plan? (ex: “if we have not achieved 50% of our goal by midterm, we will switch to Plan B.”).
Our plan B is we start using our own money toward the organization. Our "point of no return date" after Thanksgiving break if we have no money then we will do plan B.
Please list any team members who did NOT participate in creating your project proposal, or contributed very little. A quick explanation of what they did/didn't do would be helpful. This isn't to get anyone in trouble but to verify that everyone in the group has had a chance to comment on the plan you're turning in (and if they didn't, why not).
Everyone in the group worked on this collectively and put our own thoughts into this proposal. We all did the same amount of work.
