Back in 1812, the world of Grimm was originally known as Hollows Village. The village was located on the outskirts of a small kingdom under the Hanne rule, but were not recognized as being civilians of the kingdom. Regardless, the village was a small, tight-nit community of commoners and trade specialists.
Among this little town, there resided two brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm who were treated as outcasts for their fascinations in all things odd and magical. The were often referred to as cryptids for believing in things considered to be age old children tales and things considered impossible regardless of the wonders that already existed in their world.
Near Hollows Village there stood a relatively small castle under the rule of the Hanne royal family. At the time, only the King and his, Rowan Hanne, remained. The two were not very close, but the King valued his son as his only kin. Rowan on the other hand felt smothered to live in a castle with just his father.
On one particular day, Rowan felt the need to explore the world outside the castle walls, and through his exploring he comes across a lonely cottage near some woods. In said cottage there lived an elderly woman. She treated Rowan kindly, taking care of him while he stayed in her home offering him food and the most peculiar green drink.
However, the elderly woman was more than just an old lady, she was an Enchantress disguised as a helpless woman so she could test others.
Rowan on the other hand, with his lack of socialization skills, was very suspicious of the kindness of the woman. He found it odd that an old woman was living in a cottage in the middle of nowhere, so he was very weary of her. His distrust was very obvious to the Enchantress, so she decided to see where his beliefs lead his morals.
The Enchantress chose to tell Rowan that she is a practitioner of witchcraft. At the time most magic especially black magic was considered dangerous, and Rowan was raised to condemn anyone who relied on the dark arts. With fear, Rowan threatens the old woman to have her locked away if she were to try anything. He also foolishly decides to claim she was trying to trick him on purpose to stay trapped in her quaint little cottage.
The mythical woman of course was disappointed that yet another heir to a kingdom was brainwashed to believe all magic was evil, but as a woman with experience she figured Rowan would be a lost case and when she had offered him a drink, she made sure that it wasn't just any drink. The enchantress had a history for turning inconveniences into animals, and unfortunately Rowan became her latest victim.
Having drank from the offered concoction, Rowan ended up being transfigured into a frog. The Enchantress smiled at the small creature and she revealed a truth that Rowan was not pleased to hear. Her potions had no cure, unless they were created by herself, so unless Rowan could overcome his prejudices and beg her for forgiveness he would remain like the slimy little creature he currently was.
Rowan not wanting to fall for any more of her tricks, hopped away and with no other choice began to live in a pond near a village- Hollows Village.
In Hollows Village there lived a girl named Justine. She was considered the Villages pride and joy. She was as beautiful inside as she was out, smart and kind. And she was fascinated by the world: even by the smallest of things. She was recognized easily because she would carry around a gold covered ball tossing it around as she roamed around the buildings.
On one of her strolls, Justine decided to walk on the outskirts of the village. She walked with her ball in hand, and accidently tossed her ball out of her reach. It managed to roll its way into a pond. To Justine's dismay, the pond was a lot deeper than what it appeared, so she was unable to reach the ball. However, she was in luck for Rowan had taken residence in that very pond and saw her struggling.
With a leap he dived into the pond where Justine was reaching and he grabbed the golden ball that sunk to the bottom. He brought it back up and placed it right next to the girl. Justine was very grateful to have gotten her ball back and with a smile thanked him. To her surprise, the frog responded back in her language.
Justine the ever curious girl, was not frightened by the frog's ability to speak her tongue and instead opted to ask the creature, where he learned to speak. Rowan who was glad to finally have someone to talk to, spilled his entire story to Justine (talk about trauma dumping). Regardless, of how off putting it is to hear someone talk about how pitiful they are, Justine was far too kind to let the prince suffer.
With her mind set, Justine decided to do everything she could to help. With magic playing a role in Rowan's curse, Justine didn't have many options on what to do or where to go. Her best course of action was to visit the local weirdos even if the rest of the villagers look at her funny.
Justine and Rowan find themselves in front of the house of the Brothers Grimm. The two men welcome them in and take deep interest in the scenario that the prince finds himself in. Using their extensive knowledge of magic and the mystics they recall mention of a tree somewhere in their world with the ability to grant wishes, but not in the way that you want it to necessarily.
Through a quick search of their books, they find the name of the tree: the Linden Tree. Quite common some would say. With a target in mind, Justine and Rowan set off in search of said tree. Somehow, against all odds, they manage to find said tree in one of the most unlikely of spots- right outside the village area.
Justine wishes for a cure to the potion that Rowan took, and with the wish the tree’s leaves fall, turning into paper. For a short while both Justine and the Brothers were confused on the meaning behind the Tree granting Justine paper. Through trial and error (Xikers reference teehee), Justine eventually comes up with an idea that perhaps the things you write on the paper get turned into reality, but like the tree, not in the way you would think.
She decides to test out her theory by writing a loop hole in the potion using the paper. She believes that she can’t just write a reversal potion into existence (because obviously it can't be that easy, right?), but she believes that if she were to write out the story of Rowan's life and he were to to sign his life away, the curse could be lifted.
Rowan however is unable to sign as a frog, so Justine changes the wording to make it seem like her life story is about finding a cursed Prince and only she can break his curse thus tying their lives together. Miraculously, this theory of hers turns out to be the truth, and both Jacob and Wilhelm bare witness to a young girl's idea.
The Brothers, upon seeing the power this paper holds, ask Justine and Rowan to help them create Grimm Academy as the first and founding students so they can guide individuals to live out their fantasies under the guise of a fairy tale story for the rest of the world to read.
Once Upon A Time...
33 years following the creation of Grimm Academy, the class of 1847 was welcomed to through the Academy's doors. Among this class of 20 to 30 students, there were a pair of twins. Their names were Lark and Wren Keifer. Both were Raven hybrids, however one of them was a rare Albino Raven: Lark.
During their stay at Grimm Academy. Wren was in the Mentor dorm and Lark was in the Everyman dorm. The two were considered picture perfect twins, always in sync and the two getting along really well. Their personalities however told a different story.
While the two looked very much alike in some aspects, Lark was the more adventurous and ambitious of the two letting her curiosity fuel her. On the other hand Wren liked observing the events surrounding her, and enjoyed helping people out. The two did share a love for the story “Snow White and Red Rose” a story about two sisters who are very different but both in the end receive their own happily ever after.
Lark and Wren both dreamed to in some way have their stories intertwine.
The Brothers Grimm take notice of the connection between the sisters and find themselves seeing a bit of themselves in the two. They also take into consideration the dorms they’ve been assigned, and since the two are meant to be relatively ordinary characters, they decide to offer them the chance to succeed them as headmasters for Grimm. This opportunity would give Lark the chance to explore more about the potential of magic in Grimm and Wren the chance to help others write their own stories.
The brothers pitch their proposal to the sisters and with much thought the two agree to the offer. They finish their first year of Grimm successfully and start their second year where things unfortunately take a turn for the worse for everyone.
The brothers of course end up teaching them how to write and bind stories.
However, Lark is under the assumption that both she and Wren will be able to write their stories still. Things turn for the worse when the two discover that the Brothers will be writing the story they will sign for them.
Wren is in agreement with the brothers and is okay with losing the chance to write her own happily ever after if it means helping others get their own. Lark on the other hand finds it unfair that they have to give up their freedom to write their story and when she brings her worries to Wren, Wren does not see things the way Lark does.
Lark decides that if Wren won’t agree with her, then Wren will not get to share the role as headmaster with her. Lark changes the story that the Brothers wrote for her and her sister and writes Wren to forget how to bind the stories, and curses her into a tower with a limit on what she is able to say and is cursed to not write or else she’ll experience excruciating pain.
When the brothers find out what Lark does, they don’t have any way to undo what she did so they move forward with only Lark as a headmaster thinking that this tantrum is as far as her bad deeds will go.
Lark remains upset about losing her sister and about what the Brothers did. In her head, she had to lose her sister because the Brothers lied to her and all her frustrations and anger build up to her wanting to get back at the brothers for taking away all of her dreams.
Lark eventually writes the Brothers to be trapped in Wonderland, at the time known as the Land of Desolation, until they die.
Before the current student of Grimm, Lark remained the headmaster of Grimm Academy for over a hundred years.
During her years, she has helped hundreds of students create stories to as close to their ideas as possible. There were a few important years that showed her dedication to giving students the futures they desired.
1) 1863 was the year the original habitants of Wonderland came to Grimm, however Wonderland did not exist until the group of misfits graduated. The Red and White Queen, alongside The Mad Hatter, The White Rabbit, and The Caterpillar challenged the limitations of the power of the Linden Tree. Lark was intrigued by the ambition of the group, and together they worked on writing each individual story of theirs to where they intertwine and exist together as one larger story they end up referring to as Wonderland. This mega collection of their stories, created a brand new world through taking the existing Land of Desolation and giving it life, magic, and of course Wonder.
Since the creation of Wonderland, Lark since ten has been able to create actual original worlds that don't require a previous world to exist in order to be written over. Among these worlds Neverland was created by two students Peter and Wendy, the Land of Oz was created by Oscar, and most recently Narnia was created by a quartet of siblings.
2) The second most important year, was the year that Alice came to Grimm. Alice has the idea to self insert herself into the story created by the 1865 graduating class. Lark did not see any downside to the idea since Alice's story would essentially be a sequel to the story of the 1865 class. Alice succeeded in creating her adventures in Wonderland, and suddenly building off of previous stories became a thing available to students.
Other recognizable students to self insert themselves include Dorothy who wrote about her adventure in the Land of Oz.
Lark Keifer welcomes the brand new slate of students for the year 19XX.
After each student was placed in their respective dorm, they were able to roam around the school grounds and get acquainted with each other. The Enchanted Forest was off-limits, but no specific reason was given to them.
As the students were still getting accustomed to classes and the world of Grimm, news arrived that the villagers were seeking help to rebuild the mines. Unfortunately, they were not able to finish on time, and so, the villagers asked the Headmaster to impose some kind of punishment on the students; thus introducing the notion of taxes, making the students pay for the entrance to the farms.
To foster a stronger sense of community and allow the students to be more involved in school events, elections were held to choose representatives for their dorms and the Student Body President. Aside from holding meetings to address the students' needs, they were also given some suspicious letters belonging to the Grimm brothers and a mysterious "redacted" person. However, the council didn't pay much attention to them, as there was a lot of work to be done regarding clubs and other activities.
Promoting healthy competition between the dorms was important to show the dedication of studens, therefore, a sports week was announced, where all the students could compete in various activities to gain points. At the end of the week, the Villain dorm claimed the most points, which only gave them bragging rights over the other dorms.
Between classes, some students quickly began understanding the intricacies of magic and its power, while others were just getting by. Rumors reached the school about a witch who had people captured. Consequently, the students from Grimm were sent to investigate, despite knowing that the Academy would not be able to offer much assistance. In teams, they went exploring, discovering various things inside the house that allowed them to reach the top of the tower, where two people were waiting. Knox and Kat were taken back to the school, and Headmaster Keifer accepted them as students, making the students that retreived the pair show them to their dorms and around the school grounds.
The time had finally come for the students to
