WHO ARE WE?
GREW is a non-governmental organisation that is concerned about the education for sustainable development (ESD) among the primary and secondary school students. This society consists of educators that are passionate about ESD. The main goal in our society is to move the Eco-Schools Programme in Penang and other related ESD activities such as recycling, beach clean up, sharing sessions, workshops and so on.

MISSION:
To mobilise schools through enhancing quality education by adopting ESD in schools to achieve sustainable & resilient Penang.
OBJECTIVES:
Uniting and inspiring educators involved in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in schools
Cooperating with the government and stakeholders in implementing international, national and local policies for Sustainable Development.
Taking care of educators' general welfare in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)
Disseminating information related to problems regarding Sustainable Development
Improving the skills of educators involved in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) through continuous guidance and training
Mobilising the eco-schools program and other Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) related programs as a platform to gather educators in Penang
GOALS:
To train at least 50 Penang's Eco-Schools with 20% Green Flag achievement by 2025
To produce at least 10 Trainers of Eco-Schools Programme in Penang by 2025
To establish 2 groups of active GREW Heroes (Teenagers Group & Youth Group) by 2025
To publish 15 research papers for future references by 2025
To conduct self development training with at least 3 Pedagogy Training, 3 Report Writing & 5 Skills Training annually
OUR JOURNEY INTO GREW
The 1st Penang Eco-Schools camp was held on 21st to 23rd of February 2020 before Covid-19 Pandemic. In this 3 days 2 nights camp, the green educators in Penang met for the first time to discuss on further collaboration in ESD and Eco-Schools Programme.
International Best Practices Sharing Session was the first collaboration among SMK Convent Pulau Tikus, SJKC Union and SJKC Eok Hua. Nearly 1,180 students from 108 primary and secondary schools from all over Malaysia, teachers’ trainee colleges and universities, as well as teachers and students from the UK, the Philippines and Turkey, participated online.
Jerome, Yee Chen and Soon Yeong meet regularly to discuss the issue on how to involve more and more schools in Penang concerning Education on Sustainable Development (ESD) and especially on the Eco-Schools Programme.
After some time, they managed to turn their passion into a reality by successfully setting up Green Educators' Workgroup in Penang.
Inaugural General Meeting (IGM) was carried out on 11 April 2021 to kick start the GREW journey as an NGO. Advisors from IPG, USM, Schools and Committee members from JPNPP and both primary and secondary schools made the meeting a success.
After almost 2 months of the registration process with Jabatan Pendaftaran pertubuhan Malaysia, finally we managed to get the approval on the World Environment Day (WED), 5 Jun 2021. This is a great start and a good day to remember.
SCHOOLS & INSTITUTIONS
GREW provides opportunities for schools & institutions to to be involved in numerous ESD related programmes and projects. GREW also promotes quality Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in schools & institutions.
TEENAGERS & YOUTH EMPOWERMENT
GREW empowers teenagers & youth to be involved as volunteers through GREW Heroes to work closely with GREW Committee to solve environmental issues and enhance effective planning and implementing skills in ESD related programmes.
GREEN EDUCATORS
GREW serves as a platform to synergize all the Green Educators especially those in Penang who are passionate in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and to enhance quality ESD by providing more learning and upskills opportunities to green educators.
COMMUNITY
GREW also organizes programmes that will provide job opportunities to B40 families and also programmes that will help in sustaining our environment which is aligned with SDGs Goals.
