AS AN INTERN EDITOR (2023-2024):
In the second semester of the 2023-2024 school year, I took on the role of being an intern editor for Carlmont High School's journalism program, Scot Scoop. I mainly focused on the sports category of the website, editing articles from writers, highlighting how different sports games and event went. Editing is a fulfilling job because although it takes a long time, it is more than just fixing errors from the writers. I try to make my editing something that the writers enjoy and appreciate, as they learn as I try to teach then and help them improve from their errors. If something major is wrong, instead of changing it for them, I can send it back to them so that they can change it, in-tern learning and improving their journalistic skills.
This article was one of the first that I published on Scot Scoop. After my mentor editor found a little mistakes that I made while editing the article, I was quick to change them. This helped me improve my skills, making sure to check for even the most unexpected errors from the writers.
This article was very straightforward. The writers did a perfect job writing this article, other than a couple grammar mistakes. I only changed very minimal mistakes, before having it published.
This article was more unusual than what I was used to as an editor, because since the regular sports season was over, writer needed to come up with creative topics to write their articles on. For this article, there were lots of AP style mistakes and other errors. To help the writers improve, I talked to them both to let them know what they did wrong and how to improve next time.
