5 A Day Initiative

The 5 A Day Initiative is a call to action program started on July 29th, 2021. The initiative to clean up our cities is officially one year old and we have removed at least 6000 pieces of trash from the Vegas Valley.

Litter happens. It happens every day, all day. This is trash that might end up in our gutters, in our storm drains, and eventually, in our oceans.

If we took it upon ourselves to pick up 5 pieces of trash a day, that's 35 pieces of trash, you saved from going into the ocean.

This is one of those individual efforts that can make a collective impact

The 5 A Day Initiative:

In our country, our States, and our Cities have a problem, Litter. A lot of litter along the fence lines, in the parks, and worse, ends up in the gutters. The trash in the gutter ends up in the sewers, storm drains, washes and other waste water transports, which all clog up. When it rains, this helps to cause flooding and costs our cities money to remove the clogged trash, before it ends up in the streams, rivers, lakes, oceans, and other water sources.
A simple and easy solution is to pick up five pieces of trash each day and place them in recycling/trash bins, keeping those five pieces each day from ending up in the storm drains. This is one of those individual efforts that can make a collective impact.

This could easily remove over 1900 pieces of trash a year per person and stop many pounds of litter from affecting our water sources. Not to mention, this will help beautify the city.

Join the Green Samaritan Group and the crew of the USS Windrunner, be part of the solution, and make a positive impact on our planet.
