GFSA is honored to have collaborated with the Environmental Media Association in creating the first-ever EMA Student Award this year! We hope to use this award, which has garnered international interest among student filmmakers, to shed light on the world of climate storytelling for all film students. We're thrilled to watch the next generation of filmmakers and creators engage with the environment and sustainability in their productions; our three finalists have produced incredible documentaries and narratives that we're proud to give industry-level acclaim. Shoutout LA talks with prodcuer and former GFSA student ambassador Marguerite Truckey.
"When I was in college, I was student ambassador of the Green Film School Alliance, who is partnered with the EMA (Environmental Media Association) to promote sustainability efforts on sets, starting at the student level. Being from the mountains of Colorado, I am very passionate about our environment and our individual roles in its health, while preventing further added waste into the system. Film sets can be very wasteful, but it’s actually very simple to make effective changes. Many crew members have had interest in EWA’s green seals for their own films and programs, so it’s a field I’m happy to be a part of and hope will continue to grow!" Read More

To mitigate some of this impact, sustainable production guidelines have been in place at Paramount Pictures since 2013 and at Paramount Television Studios since 2014. These programs and initiatives keep evolving over time. In 2022, Paramount expanded its use of sustainable production guidelines and hired a dedicated employee to oversee sustainable production initiatives for additional studios and brands. Read More
