The exhibition Women of Mathematics throughout Europe – A gallery of portraits aims to update the necessity of developing modern forms of interaction of Mathematics on the European continent and to create a framework of encouragement for young female mathematicians and students, as well as a solid reference point for them. The exhibition includes 20 portraits of female mathematicians from European countries, who have been distinguished for their progress in the field of Mathematics and mathematical research. Launched at the 8th European Congress of Mathematics (ECM) in June 2021 in Portorož, Slovenia, it expands on the original exhibition of 13 portraits, which was launched at the 7th ECM in Berlin in 2016.
The exhibition was presented for the first time in Greece, with the kind sponsorship of the Onassis Scholars' Association, in the context of the 1st Workshop of Greek Women in Mathematics which took place in July 2022 at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).
Subsequent showings of the exhibition were held at:
the Main Library at the University of Western Macedonia in Kastoria from the 2nd to the 12th of May, 2023, in the context of May 12 Celebration of Greek Women in Mathematics.
the 13th International Week Dedicated to Maths 2023 in Thessaloniki during the weekend 13-14 May, 2023.
the National Technical University of Athens in May-June, 2024.
the 2nd Workshop of Greek Women in Mathematics, which took place in July 2024 at the Department of Mathematics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
