The Library of the School of Science of NKUA in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics offers an Interactive, Educational Program for Schools, about Euclidean Geometry, with an emphasis on Platonic and Archimedean Solids and Pavings.
The exhibition includes a collection of handmade wooden Geometric Solids and Pavings (creation and donation of G. Pettas) and the Gömböc Solid (donation of the Hungarian Embassy). Also there are on display archives and books from the Department of Mathematics, as well as Mineral Crystals from the Mineralogy Museum of the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment. Finally, there is a special tribute to the great Greek mathematician Konstantinos Karatheodoris, as well as the books he has written.
Many schools, even some from abroad, have already participated to the program, which is aimed at students aged 13 to 16 years old.
As part of the 2nd Workshop of Greek Women in Mathematics, we organised a visit to the Library of the School of Science. Wishing to support their wonderful work, here are some photos from the visit. Our tour guide was Emeritus Professor Leoni Evagelatou-Dalla.
