The University of Sheffield (UK), is among the top 20 research-intensive universities in Europe and top 100 worldwide. The CCC-group is based in the Civil and Structural Engineering (CSE) Department of the University of Sheffield. CSE department has received an outstanding result in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework and is ranked in the top 4 departments in the UK for research excellence, with 95% of its academics being “internationally recognised”. Currently, there are 15 academics, 12 experienced researchers and 50 PhD students. Concrete research is driven by environmental and sustainability issues and the development of new materials and reinforcements for concrete. CEE is the birthplace of the Recycled Tyre Steel Fibres (RTSF) and the world leader in research in recycled fibre reinforced concrete. CEE has led various research international consortia (supported by external funding in excess of €50 million), coordinated International Round Robin Tests, undertaken full‐scale seismic strengthening and organised several international seminars. The CEE group has been a leading player since the mid‐1980s in investigating the structural behaviour of concrete. The quality of the work has been recognised in two Henry Adams Awards from the IStructE and the ASCE’s prestigious Raymond C Reese Prize for two companion papers in 2005. Its structural fire analysis software, Vulcan, won two national prizes from the British Computer Society. CEE group lead or participate in all major national and international scientific committees and learned societies (e.g. IStructE, fib, ACI, RILEM, IIFC, NGCC,). Hence, this will ensure that the fellow will benefit substantially from CEE group and in terms of research expertise, professional maturity and employability beyond the academic sector. The fellow will be assisted by the CEE group (prior to and when arriving to UK), to find house accommodation and to get introduced to the UK culture (including tax systems, banking, health care, schools) and university practices. Additionally, the fellow will have access to training provided by the USFD, including the dedicated programme to welcome the Marie-Curie Fellows, University's career development training courses 'think ahead' and Entrepreneurship seminars and Staff and a Leadership Development programs.
