Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how GrassLens (the app), developed and published by Bohdan Hordiienko (we, us), handles information when you use the app on iPhone or iPad. By using GrassLens you agree to the practices described here.

The short version

There is no account and no sign-in. Your photos, identifications and notes stay on your device. When you ask for an identification, the photo you chose is sent to Google's Firebase AI service (Gemini models) only after you confirm the upload. We do not collect your name, email address, contacts or precise location, and the app contains no advertising or analytics SDKs.

Information stored on your device

The photos you take or import, your crops, identification results, alternatives, notes, corrections, dates and the intent you choose (such as care, manage or remove) are stored in the app's private storage on your device. This data is not uploaded to servers operated by us. It is removed when you delete the item in the app or uninstall the app.

Photos sent for identification

When you request an identification, the app asks you to confirm before anything leaves your device. After you confirm, a resized copy of the selected photo and a request describing the task are sent to Google's Firebase AI Logic service, which runs Gemini models, to produce the result. Google processes this data as a service provider under the Google Cloud and Firebase terms and the Google Privacy Policy. We do not attach your name, email address or any account identifier to the request, and we do not keep copies of your photos on servers. Photos are never sent without your explicit confirmation.

App integrity and remote settings

To protect the identification service from abuse, the app uses Firebase App Check together with Apple's App Attest and DeviceCheck. This sends short-lived attestation tokens to Apple and Google that show the request comes from a genuine copy of GrassLens. These tokens do not identify you personally. The app also downloads a small set of configuration values (for example the number of free identifications) through Firebase Remote Config. No usage analytics, crash reporting or advertising SDKs are included in the app.

Purchases and subscriptions

Subscriptions, free trials and one-time purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. Apple provides the app with transaction and entitlement information so that paid features can be unlocked and restored. We never see your payment card, billing address or Apple ID password. You can manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple ID settings at any time.

Camera and photo library permissions

GrassLens asks for camera access to photograph plants and for photo library access to import existing pictures. These permissions are used only for the photo you are working with. You can revoke them at any time in the iOS Settings app; the app will keep working with the remaining options.

Support email

If you contact us from the app or by email, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message. We use it only to answer you and keep the conversation for as long as needed to resolve your request.

Children

GrassLens is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security and your choices

Data on your device is protected by iOS security features, and every network request is encrypted in transit. You control what is sent: skip the confirmation and nothing is uploaded. You can delete individual items or your whole Collection inside the app, and uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Changes are published on this page with a new effective date. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
