The Power of Giving
By: Olivia Blake & Debi Teferi
Dear Reader,
Merry Christmas!
Don’t you love Christmas? We sure do! The joy of celebrating the birth of our Savior with love for him and others, sharing food and presents, and celebrating with family and friends, but sometimes we forget the power of giving. Not only does giving make others happy, it also makes you happy. Did you ever give a gift to someone and make that person happy? If you haven't, we encourage you to do so. Some ways of giving are by helping others: praying for them, donating clothes and food, going to soup kitchens, and much more! By reading this, we hope you now know how important giving is. Remember: Christmas continues through January 6th, the ancient feast of the Epiphany. Thank you for reading!
Beware of the Cheese Touch
By Isla Noll
The cheese touch is a dangerous thing to have in your school. If your class reads the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, where the lead characters do the cheese touch, then watch out! When my class started doing it, it caused a lot of trouble.
It all started l in 2nd grade. One random day, I walked into class and everything seemed normal. It was only during recess when I found out something was wrong. It was rainy outside. We went up to the gym for recess. I was talking to Lucia (My Best Friend) then someone came up to me and said ‘’CHEESE TOUCH!!’’ It started; I had the cheese touch. I asked, “How do you play?” and they said, “ You cross your fingers to be safe from the cheese touch.” At first, I didn't really care that I had the cheese touch. But a minute later, everyone around me was not talking to me but was only whispering about me, and I overheard them say, ‘’Isla has the cheese touch.’’ Then, even Lucia turned against me! They all were teasing me. The cheese touch is, and always will be, a teasing game; our teacher made that clear to us and then banned it. It was fine after that.
Then 3rd Grade started. Our class was really into Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. I had already read the whole series, but I didn’t want to spoil it for others, so I didn’t warn them about the cheese touch, and I didn’t think that they would replicate it. But at recess one day, I heard people saying, “####### has the cheese touch.” I was in shock! The cheese touch was going around again! Someone in our class who was teased in the 2nd Grade started it. I did not want it to happen to me again, so I kept away and just played with Lucia for that recess. But then some people went up to me and tried to cheese touch me. I told them that I wasn't playing. The next day the teacher found out, and she banned it.
Now our class is in 4th grade, and someone tried to start it again, but as soon as it started, it was banned once again. That is why you don’t start the cheese touch.
