Rooted in a passion for justice and social change, Master Myers is a behavioral health nurse with a master's in applied behavior analysis who is currently pursuing a PhD in special education. As a neurodivergent Black scholar, his work challenges anti-Black systems and uplifts Black voices through research, advocacy, and representation.
ML seeks to address systemic inequities that African American families face when accessing educational and behavioral support for neurodivergent children. His research explores how racial and cultural biases impact diagnosis, treatment, and intervention, thus creating a barrier to equitable care. Grounded in the understanding that racism, ableism, and economic marginalization shape Black family experiences, he generates community-informed data to promote inclusive and culturally responsive practices in special education and behavior analysis. His work ensures that African American families and children are not only acknowledged but actively centered in the creation, evaluation, and implementation of policies and practices that affect their lives. Additionally, ML aims to increase the presence of Black practitioners in the field, fostering representation and supporting long-term structural change.
