"MEAN/MEANING"
as in day program
came up when talking about final projects with other students
learned this on my first day, I fingerspelled it first then learned the sign
I kept signing JEALOUS instead of COOL then a staff member informed me of the mistake
I was using JEALOUS instead of COOL by accident then was shown the correct way
a staff member informed us that one of the clients was an alcoholic, and that is why he was sleeping during the day program
another student celebrated a 21st birthday then a staff member was asking about it and making jokes
came up in same conversation about another student's 21st birthday
some clients frequently go outside to smoke a cigarette
was asked if we wanted to participate in a game of UNO
we were "stuck" playing 6 games of BINGO because the clinets enjoyed it so much!
when assisting a staff member doing in-home services, we went to the store TARGET
we were excited when we found what we were looking for at Target
it was a very nice day outside and I wondered what temperature it was
At CCEC they use PROBLEM for the word puzzle, at CCEC one resident informed me how to sign PUZZLE
a staff member was sharing with us that some clients have autism
I went to CCEC on Good Friday when several residents were getting ready to celebreate Easter
we play A LOT of UNO, so "LOSE" came up often
cheating happens often in our games of UNO, it was actually encouraged, more fun!
distinguishing between 2 versions of CHEAT (in a game vs. in a relationship)
a staff member said this after hearing a story from a client
I did this sign by accident and they informed me I was saying HONEY
we use this sign a lot because clients and students get VERY enthusiastic about winning!
"at least I admit I'm addicted to starbucks"
"At least I'm addicted to Starbucks, not drugs!"
Yes, I know there are a lot of references to drugs, alcohol, and such. Here is a conversation with a staff member which shows you how our "addiction" was actually Starbucks! That led to a discussion of it being better than being addicted to other things, which is where we learned a lot of those signs.
