GQCO
We are a group of chemists, ecologists, and engineers dedicated to studying the problem of anthropogenic organic pollutants and their transformations in the environment. We seek new ways to analyze them, understand their behavior, and assess their effects. Our mission is to generate useful knowledge for environmental management by integrating tools from chemistry, ecotoxicology, and advanced instrumental analysis.
All productive activities have an impact on the environment. Naturally, all countries require a flow of matter and energy to ensure the quality of life of their citizens. However, it is worth noting that the balance between the exploitation of natural resources and the sustainable conservation of the environment has been, and continues to be, the subject of intense debate. On the one hand, the exploitation of natural resources is important for human development and economic growth. On the other hand, the sustainable conservation of natural resources—and, more broadly, environmental sustainability—appears as both an ethical and legal duty for present and future generations. This opposition creates significant tensions and challenges, requiring delicate trade-offs between resource use and environmental preservation.
We believe we can contribute to achieving these points of balance and promote the development of increasingly sustainable technologies for the environment.
• Study of emerging contaminants in the Reconquista River basin.
• Study of macro- and microplastics in freshwater bodies in the province of Buenos Aires.
• Study and transformation of microplastics in horticultural soils.
• Study and transformation of horticultural biomulchings in natural environments.
• Study of microelastomers and emerging contaminants in urban soils.
• Development of useful materials from waste agricultural polyethylene.
• Photochemical transformation of pesticides and their mobilization in the environment.
All members of GQCO are faculty members in the Chemical Engineering and Higher Technical Degree in Chemistry programs at the National University of General Sarmiento. We have under our responsability subjects such as General Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Laboratory II and III, Environmental Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry II, Physical Chemistry, and Thermodynamics.
If you're interested in environmental chemistry, ecotoxicology, or emerging contaminants, you can join our activities or collaborate with the Organic Pollutant Chemistry Group (GQCO). We welcome students, graduates, and professionals committed to environmental research and interdisciplinary science.
