GP Community Diagnosis (GPCD)

GPCD project - Review PHE data for the GP practice

Building on the GP Community Diagnosis module that the students completed in term 1, we want the students to review the public health data for the local authority in which the practice is situated.

Students should:

  • Look at the Public Health England data for the local authority, the local ward data from the council websites, open prescribing data and other relevant data sources, to examine the health and social needs of the GP practice's local community.

  • Collect some observational data on the area by walking around the area or looking on googlemaps or instant street view (https://www.instantstreetview.com/).

  • Identify any areas of health and social care needs, and any health inequalties to discuss with your tutor.

  • Students who complete this excercise in week 2 should build on the findings of the students in week 1, to explore these themes further, or choose new topics to examine. You may decide to ask your GP tutor for suggestions of who you could interview to collect some qualitative data.
