Indigenous Mural

In 2018, three grade 12 students took on a major project for both Governor Simcoe and the indigenous community. After multiple long hours spent in the art room over months this mural now hangs in the front foyer of our school, commemorating our ties to indigenous culture.

Grade Art Show

Graduate Art Show

Over the years many grade twelves have entered the graduate art show and have won awards. In 2018 Mei Mei Yang won two best in show awards and best acrylic for her captivating piece, Her Garden. In 2019, Bridget Varley won best in show with her mixed media piece The Sweet Spot. Mitchell Epp won the black and white award with his piece inspired by Troye Sivan. Becca Peters and Anna Kohler also both won awards for their multi faceted pieces.

Art Club

Art Club

Art club runs every Monday after school. Anyone is welcome to join and express themselves. The Art Department has many different types of mediums to explore and experiment with.

There are also school-wide projects that students can get involved in, such as a mosaic made by students in 2015 using clay and glaze. Using this unfamiliar medium opened students' minds into new avenues of art.

Art club members are also kept up to date on local art competitions, giving students the opportunity to make money through their art.

SIMCOE ANIMATION ART

Animation Art

Governor Simcoe artists experiment and create animation artworks - the visual art of creating a motion picture from a series of still drawings. Emerging technologies or traditional hand-painted, hand-drawn, or hand-sculpted methods can be used to create animation art.

Archive

Archive

After a decade of teaching at Goveror Simcoe, Mr. Grant has collected quite a collection of artworks from past students as both examples, treasures and memories. Pieces shown are old projects that Mr. Grant has updated or fun works done by students in their free time. Mediums used range from graphite on paper to pastels on wax paper. Please feel free to look through and explore the years of art archived from Governor Simcoe art vault. Many of the archival works were completed during the fantastic "Bob (Herm) Herman era".

Photography

Governor Simcoe also has an excellent photography program with Mr. Cote. This other art form allows students to explore a more technical side of art learning about angles, lighting and how to capture the perfect moment while also trying to convey a mood and feeling to an audience.
